Stormbrow II
I'll not be using the model as the wolf's face is too...small? It's muzzle looks too rounded (like a cat) as opposed to angular. I'd be needing lots of green stuff to be happy with the model before I could use him. I'll probably end up converting something and putting it on a monster base - maybe a Marine on a rock (for the height) with a pair or tri-force of wolves on leashes and use chain to link them together. The actual rules for the character are a bit sucky anyway - I'd much rather use those points to get a squad of Troops or add to my Thunderwolf unit. Storm Shields are very expensive these days. Ryzouken
Canis is a 185 point Close combat special character. He carries twin lightning claws and has a Thunderwolf mount. We also has a limited range leadership bonus for Fenrisian Wolf packs, which I've had great success with back when they were 2 pts more and couldn't get vehicle support (13th Co army list from EoT). Sadly, he doesn't make Thunderwolf Cav Troop choices like initially rumoured, and thus my ardor for him has slackened significantly. He remains an excellent model for hitting horde lists with, as his special rules give him upwards of eight attacks with str 5 Wolf Claws. And he's Cavalry. This is important. It means as a counter assault element, Canis is second to almost none (terminators give him a run for his money) as he can advance with your army, possibly behind a transport, and still assault enemy units before they hit your lines. Jump Pack units often find themselves having to put themselves in harm's way as they only assault 6. With Canis having fleet and assault 12, he has a 24'' threat range, and matches the movement of your basic troopers. Regular Thunderwolf Cavalry does much of the same, but occupies a Fast Attack Slot instead and can be tougher (having up to 10 wounds with inv saves is nice). While Canis isn't bad per se, I no longer see myself fielding him when Rune Priests and Thunderwolf Cav make for a more solid list (the former can engage virtually anything they desire and provide some nice utility powers, the latter provide most of Canis's functionality) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178048-will-you-use-canis-wolfborn/page/6/#findComment-2133103 Share on other sites
Leman Of The Russ
I agree with all of the above-except that they're aren't Lightning Claws. Canis is great. WG Vrox
After playing him the other night a lack of invol save, leadership 8 is what makes him not worth taking in a straight up list. If you give him more than 1 wolf as battle gear you loose your T5 roll in CC. I also found if you run him with fen wolves make sure you max out at 15, these guys die like flies with a 6+ save. He is not fearless so when you loose half your wolves you still need to test for leadership and may run the other way faster than he come on board, I see visions of him being escorted off the table quite often. I already ordered the model and paid for it so I plan to do a heavy conversion on him. For the points I would rather bring a WL and give TWM, SS/TH SoW WTN Runic Armour. Crazy points wise but wow what a beast. Vrox. Leman Of The Russ
I guess, but you would have him join a unit of Thunderwolf Cavalry for maximum impact. TheLastHuzzah
Well, I am pumped about Canis Wolfborne (even if he's not used as Canis)...it is nearly as cool as bear cavalry. Regardless, I was doing a google search about the new SW models being "weedier" than their vanilla cousins. I feel like they have thinner legs, or something...but it could just be the photographs. I came across this post on rpg.net, for you Canis/TWC haters: Courtesy of Sabermane: "Bjorngar, I want a steed!" "Okay, warmaster--a hovercraft?" "Nay! i want a GREAT WOLF!" "Well...we are Space Wolves. Okay. We can find on-" "WEARING ARMOR!!" "...well, obviously. There's lascannons out th--" "AND A CYBER-EYE!" "....um...ok..I gu--" "AND I WANT LIGHTNEING CLAWS!" "..sure. Claws. On a wild animal? A barely controlled wild animal?" "AND A BIG HONGING THING ON THE BACK!!" "...what?" "ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT'LL MAKE ME LOOK BIGGER! A BANNER!!" "...you're nine feet tall, already sir." "AND MORE CLAWS!" Ryzouken
I agree with all of the above-except that they're aren't Lightning Claws. Canis is great. Virtually no major difference. They're power weapons that have the ability to reroll some of the combat dice that occur. Hell, if you opt to reroll wound rolls, they're no different except in name. Ultimately, was pointing this out really worth your post? FNG's got me sounding like Lunchb0x now... *buys Lunch another ale for the joke at his expense* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178048-will-you-use-canis-wolfborn/page/6/#findComment-2133987 Share on other sites

I swear his goal is to drive the SW community into insane bouts of anger. Just look at his posts here in the Fang for a collection of "How stupid can i sound" comments that make forrest gump look like a scholar. BDS
I am definitely going to use him. My first two painted HQ's will be him, then Bjorn. I am working on a list with 40-50 Fenrisian wolves (old metal Chaos hounds are perfect btw) and him, backed up by LF and some GH's. Picking up my codex tomorrow, Canis is going on order, the wolves I picked up last Sat. Two test games with only two squads of Fen wolves and I am pleased. Jarl Bloodwolf
i just wonder why they just now popped up. guess the fang was doing some spring cleaning and we found the saddles behind part of the titan lol. we need to clean out the basement more often i think.....lol i think he would be worth taking for his abilitys that he gives to the army as for modeling you could always create an alternative character using his rules and mount them on a space marine bike.
