astindextor
Or do Tyranids just suck against Chaos Marines? Im fairly new to this game. I still have less than a dozen games under my belt. But I haven't lost yet to my friend who has mostly beenplaying Tyranids, and he has been playing for years. I dunno if I am playing wrong, or if he is, but I obviously outshoot him, and then even in close combat, with my layers of saves (I play with Tzeentch-marked Chosen, 2 squads ofPlague Marines, and I keep rolling Feel No Pain for my Possessed) he can assault witha full squad of Genestealers, and I lose like 1 or 2 guys, thencut down hissquad in response. Is this normal? Are marines the bane of Tyranids, or am I playing the saveswrong? Drudge Dreadnought
It is more a matter of tyranids not being particularly strong in 5th edition. They need a codex update. Jeffy.Gee
my layers of saves You know you only get one save right? Either your 3+ armour save OR your 4+ invulnerable save. Never both. DuskRaider
Yes, it is just you. You haven't seen 'Nids until you've played against a Winged CC Hive Tyrant. Also, either he's rolling horribly or not taking enough 'Stealers. The Broodlord is also a NASTY CC beast. Let's put it this way... If he's not fielding either of those HQ then he's got problems. I assume FNP is still an extra roll afterthe basic Armour Save? Corpse.
Pick one save, normally the best one your allowed. One save only per wound taken. Feel no pain is the final say if its allowed. Remember AP2, AP1, instant death and power weapons remove feel no pain as well. Citizen Snips
If he is fielding any of these you should be wining. Bugs in 5th are all about shooting and do not have the assault power they once had. A Flying CC tyrant sounds great on paper, but he eats all heavy weapon fire and can never save against it except for a 6+ from warp field, but even that is over priced for a terrible save. Any other Monstrous Creature in the game will kick his ass in melee. Instead, give a HT two twin linked devourers and watch him kill just about anything in the game. Twelve twin linked shots at strength six that get re-roll wounds as well for cheaper than a CC tyrant. Pack on some tyrant guard for that easy 4+ cover save and your opponent will be bitching up a storm. Broodlord sounds good, but attach him to a unit of genestealers hurts them. They lose the fleet rule, and after playing with and against them several times, I can say losing fleet is a game changer for you. Nids can be nasty, but any experience player will know to target synapse creatures first than clean up what lurking scraps afterward. chillin
Yea, you guys need to read the rule book. You never get more then 1 try to save each wound, you don't get to try armor save then take invul if you fail that. You can take a fnp save IF you you were able to take an armor save and failed. You can NEVER layer saves (except fnp after a reg armor save). But as drudge sz, between the nids latest dex and 5th ed. rules, nids aren't that good anymore. But that being said you have definately been taking WAY more saves then you are allowed. astindextor
Yeah I re-read my rule book. I have the Black Reach minirulebook, and it looks like the section on saves ends, then on the next page has the bit about only getting 1 save. My mistake there, at least with the possessed lol... Plague Marines are still good... and posessed indeed will be harvested for bits when I get the money to buy more stuff... I'd definitely disagree with this, especially about the Winged Tyrant. IF a player knows how to use it right and you don't take it down in a turn, it's on your units and ripping them apart. And about MCs kicking it's ass in melee? How so? 9 out of 10 times it will strike first (except against Keeper of Secrets), with implant attack it does double wounds, and since it's an MC you can't take a save against it (except Inv.). A Bloodthirster or Keeper of Secrets have the best chance, but truthfully even the BT is a hit or miss affair. I will agree with the Broodlord and his 'Stealer retinue losing their Fleet. But again, with their high Initiative they'll always strike first, although you definitely have more time to take it down. But the Winged Tyrant? Like I said, you've got a round to take it down, two if you're lucky or they placed sloppy. Zeller
I can vouch for the flyrant being the biggest sob in a nid army. I've had that bastard run through two landraiders in one game because I still don't target snyapse creatures. Call me stupid... ;) Even my friend tells me to do it after every game. It just doesn't come to mind during the game. I will tell you this. Terminators with powerfists will literally obliterate any MC as long as a few guys survive.
