Air/water/fire/earth, what about metal

chapter master 454

Right I'm someone who feels metal is always left out, it is an element for earth is rock but metal refers to something that takes all 4 elements and blends together. Metal is the most strange element for it can become the razor-sharp sword then the mighty wall. The hidden dagger to swift rapier (spelt right?) and yet it feels like a pointless to create list at first but I would like to throw down that gauntlet to the tactica astartes, I personally wish to know if you can create a list that can do all that air, fire, earth and water can do but not as well but still be far more flexible in tactics. Turning the swift rapier to hidden dagger then to a shield only for the sword to counter attack after. Is this impossible or is there some way of creating a 5th element army list type?

Or am I wasting space?

The classical elements of Greek (and thus Western) civilization were Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. That's why you usually only see four referenced.

The orientals often added spirit or wood to the discussion. This is reflected directly in Go Rin No Sho (The book of Five Rings) by Miaymoto Musashi. Void (or no mind) being spirit.

Since that work became a part of western military thinking, we ended up with the four elements in our tactica discussion here. Void is hard to apply and poorly understood, so not often referenced except with the advice to "decide quickly", or "act now". Which isn't really a playstyle, to be honest.

And I'm pretty sure that unless you have a very specific way of thinking about a "metal" army, it's going to end up being better described as an earth, fire, water, or air army by the board's use of the terms.

For my money, a good water list is one that can mimic the other elemental types when its appropriate.

That means its already an amalgam elemental (comprised of fire/water/air).

I think people might try to get creative with mixed elemental lists (earth/fire = clay) but generally I believe sticking with the 4 major ones will be the simplest, especially since most people's understanding of those terms is somewhat varied already.
