Captain Juan Juarez
In my copy of Flight of the Eisenstein it lists Tarvitz as First Captain of the Emperors Children. Surely this in incorrect? First Captain was generally a veteran position of honour and respect in the Legions, a la Abaddon/Luna Wolves, and Saul is repeatedly referred to as nothing more than a line officer! Hergrmir
Well, for the Emperor's Children Lord Commanders outranked captains, but I wouldn't think Tarvitz would be 1st. A shame, perhaps, since his example would have been a better one to follow than Kaesoron and Eidolon, but what can you do. And in Fulgrim Kaesoron is 1st and Tarvitz leads 10th. Sons of Horus
maybe it was a mistake. I don't blame them though because Kaesoron didn't exist until Fulgrim came out and Flight of the Eisenstein was first. Tutteman
Fulgrim: HAHAHA, and then, guess what? Horus: what? what did you do with that upstart tarvitz Fulgrim: Well I planned to send him down to Istvaan, but then I thought, hey why not make him first captain, for a laugh, you know, 'oh I'm so important, I'm first captain' SPLAT! (General laughter from assorted chaos primarchs) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178184-curious-question/#findComment-2107170 Share on other sites

Raven Angel
It's also posible that the rank was given by the ECs dirt side after all hell broke lose as he was in overall command. Starblayde
The Emperor's Children seemed to have an odd command structure, compared to say the Luna Wolves, as they had Lord Commanders (such as Eidolon) who appeared to be above everyone else and also the group known as Fulgrim's Chosen, who were all marked for great deeds (or, rather, misdeeds), such as Lucius. Perhaps a legacy of the early geneseed disaster, so a more informal, handpicked sort of command structure arose instead. It would certainly fit with the arrogance of the Chapter, as the more senior/beloved/perfect the man, the more golden bling he had on his armour. But First Captain? That's surely a mistake, unless they're referring to the Loyalist side of things - there were at least two thousand Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus who remained loyal and a goodly number of Emperor's Children, too. Must have been the events on Murder, but not mentioned at the time. *Shrugs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178184-curious-question/#findComment-2119317 Share on other sites

Then again it does raise the question regarding the role of First Captain since Juluis Kaesoron (SP?) was First Captain up until the first loyalist counter-strike by other Legions on the moon of Istvaan.
