WGT as Troops

I love Terminators, yet have consistently found them to be too fragile for thier costs.

That was until the 3++ Storm Shileds. :) And they are (bar Honour Guard) the cheapest unit of Space Marines to kit out with Power Weaons.

This being said, the change to 5th making them not scoring delt a massive blow to my use of Terminators, which even the Deathwing of the DA couldn't revive. I've tried DW. Didn't like it. They were still too fragile for my tastes, especially in thier enforced small squads.

But now, we have the tantalising option of a WGT troop list.

How will you build yours? Kit them out fully, making a powerful, but very small force. Or use them in mass, with the cheap basic cost, to field as many as possible? Or a mixture in between?

We can't get around not having Logan, and that's a chunk of points gone already. What to do with the rest?

A 4 man Storm Shield and TH/FB/CF squad in a Drop Pod? Attach Logan to them and drop them first turn with Drop Pod Assault?

Stick to 10 man Squads, with no upgrades and go slaghter MEQ with Power Weapons? Incude Thor (maybe in the 'uber' Logan Drop Pod squad of death?)?

Max out on smaller 3 Man squads for Objective taking? Maybe even aguementing them with the cheaper of the HQ options?

At the moment, I'm feelng partial to WGT with Storm Shields (And hopefully keeping the Power Wepaons, but it depends on how you purchase SS for WGT. And what they replace...). They weigh in just slightly more expensive than the Deathwing, or even Grey Knight Terminators, but have much more survivability.

I'm mainly going to be fielding them in Apocalypse. I've just got an image of around 60+ terminators rocking up and counting as scoring.

With regards to armaments it's going to be chainfists and frost blades for the shooty ones and probably TH/SS with cyclones and frost blade/SS with cyclones for assaulty ones with as many cyclones as possible.

I saw mention in the other thread about having two ACs in a Drop Pod. I thought the new rules were 1 Heavy weapon per 5 Termies. :/

I'm also considering Using them with SB and Frost Blades. Making them much closer to GKT in stats, but trading a slightly worse statline for Counter Attack, Drop Pods and Scoring.

I think it is 2 Heavies per 10 termies, but then you parcel them out as you wish to packs or keep them in their own pack. This means the two heavies could still be in the same pack.

For me, I'm thinking of a combo of GH's in pods lead by cyclone earing WG termies. The Wolf Guard termies in pods would have combi weapons (all combi flamers, all combi meltas, all combi plasmas ).

I'd probably attach a RP in termie to the group with combi plasmas.

I'm really torn right now. There are just too many builds/and themed builds and my neurons are going to explode. :P

Frankly... it depends on the rules for them. Since we dont know the exact rules I cant say exactly.

What I can say is from what Ive heard I wont ever be fielding TDA as troops... I love Logain Grimnars fluff, but I wont play the man on the field.

He's super expensive, but doesn't sound too bad. :/

(As a GK player myself, I'm now getting torn by ideas of Grey Knights on horseback, using the Thunderwolf rules!)

Pick up a Fantasy Brettonian army, youll get much the same effect, without having to outsource your codex :).

Its not the expensive part... its the fact that Im playing Bjorn Stormwolfs company, and I see no reason for the Old Wolf to be leading it.

Now if you could use WFB armies in 40K.... :)

That's the joy with 5th. The Logan you field doesn't have to be the Logan. ;) But we're straying off topic now.

Seeing as you can't get a Power Armour Space Marine squad with Power Weapons cheaper than 35 points each (I think Honour Guard are the cheapest), the bare basic WGT seem a very tempting option.
