Deathwing commission WIP

The weathering on the chassis is all done, bar the dust / mud layer which will go on right at the end.

I decided against oil washes at the last minute and decided to use simple spot washes with devlan mud, streaking by pulling the brush down.

'Rhynstetten' is a client request and is the current campaign for this army. This Land Raider, number four, currently attached to the deathwing is named 'Nathaniel'.

Updates - still some chipping and washing to do on the cannons.

I think you'll produce a stunning army. you've certainly got the talent and i'd love to see more of your work. from what i'm reading not many people appreciate how much time, effort and skill you've undoubtedly put into it which is a shame. are you planning on doing anymore deathwing? i'd like to see at least the conversions on pg1 and a heavily converted "redemption" squad or something. (just a thought).

how did you achieve such realistic weathering techniques? if you're willing i'd certainly love to hear from you about it.

pm me ^_^

The weathering is a combination of sponge and stipple techniques (both detailed in numerous places) and some very simple spot washes and blends with devlan mud. I wanted to use a technique that I could easily duplicate on the terminators themselves, which meant than salt chipping wasn't ideal.

Some excellent work going on here. I just love seeing so much effort put into making a fully customisable mini, and the paint job really tops it off, even though its not finished..

BTW, what airbrush are you using? I need one to do my own tanks with but I don't want to dish out huge money needlessly... the one you're using seems to be what I'm after.

I'll refer you to this thread:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=164808

Which lists what equipment I use and the basic techniques.

Note I use *VERY* thin paint for the filter passes that go over the preshade (which is thicker at around 2:1 water-paint). I also thinned my paints on this tank with windscreen wash on this job, just to try it. Works nicely. :-)

Sweet LR! Nice work on the interior, always nice to see the extra effort there as opposed to glueing everything shut. Can't wait to see more!

*Edit - a big duh on my part ... posted the above only after reading the 1st page, then I read the 2nd ... the exterior is great! Great weathering! I need to get an airbrush ...

Some work on the commander, Belial. They green stuff'd panels have come out looking better than I expected. :-) The basecoat is a little thick. I'm hoping I won't have to strip it. :-|

Yeah. After using it to retouch the land raider it became apparent that it's pretty much the midtone of the preshade job. So I jumped straight to using it as a basecoat for the terminators. I'll apply very gentle glazes of the chocolate brown I used as a preshade to shade it down a bit, and devlan mud washes in the recesses. I'll highlight up by dusting with ivory.

Got back onto this commission for a while - using the same technique as for the Ultramarines I'm doing (zenital pre-highlights with an airbrush) this is the resultant test fig for quality check purposes. I've had to use a blue background as my camera seems to complain with the low contrast against a white backdrop at night...

He still needs a few touches here and there - highlighting the lenses, maybe a few spot washes.
