Iron Bars
I was thinking about putting a jump pack on a captain just for the cool of it. Now my question is: is this an effective way to use a captain? What equipment should he be carrying? What unit should he be with, if any? Giga
Well, personally, I'd say a jumppack captain+assault squad is better then jumppack chaplain+assault squad. Mainly because a captain with a relic blade is a very killy thing to have, and because having a captain unlocks a command squad. If I was gearing up a jumppack captain, I'd give him a relic blade, a combimelta or combiflamer, and... Well, leave it at that. Hfran Morkai
I've heard good things about relic blades and storm shields. I would put him with an assault squad to be honest, not as customisable as a vanguard squad but not as expensive or likely to draw fire either. And they still throw out 3 attacks each and can have two flamers and a tooled-up Sergeant However I don't play with IC's that are allowed jump packs yet so this may not be good advice, its what I would do though. ShinyRhino
Problem with unlocking a command squad with a jumpy captain is...the command squad can't have jump packs. So, you have to abandon them and join an assault or vanguard squad, and the captain is half the beef in a command squad, unless you make them 100% shooty with a Razorback or something. Iron Bars
I was thinking along the same lines, relicblade and ss, with an assault squad. The command squad on itself is pretty good but it needs to be tooled for one task and not multi task. Giga
Command squad with a bunch of special weapons, either put on bikes or in razorback, is a force to be reckoned with on their own. They don't really need the captain unless you really want to use them for assault, which I think is the waste of their shooting potential. waaanial00
Actually you can have some crazy Jump Pack Captain and Biker command Squad but it just looks wrong :) They technically stay as a squad because they move 12" to stick within coherency. I field Twin Claws on my JP captain, mainly doubling as Shrike but he does quite well on its own. Great for accumulating average toughness kills, especially when backed up with an assault squad with a thunderhammer. Though I have to admit that the Relic Blade and SS makes him a better character to tackle higher toughness opponents (just dont attack a Wraithlord and expect to do much damage) Wan Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178275-captain-with-a-jump-pack/#findComment-2107795 Share on other sites
HERO
You can go with either a Relic Blade + Artificer Armor or Storm Shield on the jump pack Captain. He's very good to have if you need the extra killy to your Assault squad.
