Helmet Variation Question

Hello,

I was wondering as to whether or not this style of helmet is an ultramarine only option. I have been wanting to make a pre heresy army but I want to avoid the Ultramarines at all posssible. Thanks for any help you can give.

Here's the helmet:

I've asked myself the same question a few times :) After asking around a lot, checking the "Collected Visions - The Horus Heresy" artwork book and other sources, I can conclude:

The helmet is not an Ultramarine only option. There are pictures of Emperor's Children and Raven Guard using it. But, admittedly, 90% of all artworks show the Smurfs using them, so my quess is it's a Macragge-produced helmet which was mostly used by the smurfs, but also issued in small numbers to other Legions.

I think you can use it - I'd combine it with the MkV "Heresy" suit, since "MkV" is a general term describing experimental suits, prototypes, mixed suits, and special bits of armour, as well as the standard MkV suit. So, in my eyes, anything deviating from the standard Mk I, II, III, IV, and VI suits is a MkV.

But then, that's my opinion...use it in any way you like  looking forward to seeing finished models!

Hope that helped

Good boy!

Now, as far as I know, this is an Ultramar pattern helmet, but I suppose you could say of company of your Legion aske Guilliman for the patterns, I think the IH would do that.

It looks like a variant Mk 3 helmet, given the heavy plate facing the front. Of course, it does come from the Collected Visions book, which sometimes takes... liberties... with the armour styles, but that doesn't mean it doesn't look damn cool.
