The Dark Angle
well hello fellow wolves I've been on quite a few boards on the B&C lately and I happened on an article for creating custom chapters in which it said that using the wolve's gene seed is a big no and I would like to know why For wolfintime Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178379-space-wolves-gene-seed/ Share on other sites
Quillen
Well, supposably when the chapter split it founded the wolf brothers. The wolf brothers were disbanded because of mutaition. Of course the normal wolves have never had mutaition that would result in a purge. But it's a little bit of fluff. But the Imperium also kills off anyone that gets in their way. Like the Star Lions? So I could see them being killed and then a cover story being put in place. We do have Lost Companies that left the Fang for some reason or another and are still loyal. So you can make a lost company. As to the gene seed thingy odds are there are a few chapters with some if not all the geneseed of the space wolves. Remember they don't always tell a new chapter where it's gene seed come from. And sometimes they need parts of one line for another that has lost that organ. Lord Howland Greywolf
I just heard thet fenrisians are the only humans strong enough to withstand teh canix helix gene, thus only they may take space wolf gene sead. This leads to a problem as no two chapters may recrute from the same world to stop the over farming as it were. So the space wolves remain one of the largest chapters in excistance because it is impossible for others to use their genesee. Vash113
Well actually no it's not really likely any other Chapters would be made using Space Wolf Gene-seed. The Wolf Brothers proved that recruiting anywhere else than Fenris just didn't turn out well plus with the Canis Helix and the Wulfen there's no way the Ad-Mech would use such "deviant" gene-seed. The purity of the Ultramarines genetic material is why like more than 70% or something of all Space Marine Chapters use it. There aren't even many Iron Hands, Raven Guard, Salamanders or Blood Angels successors after the 2nd founding for that matter. You can do a Lost Compay though. Anyway there are tons of threads on this subject, just try a search for "SW Successors" and "Lost Companies" and you'll find a lot of threads on the subject. slmellon
Im going to have to agree with my fellow wolves...the Ad-Mech stores all the tithed geneseed for the Imperium and the High Lords say when new chapters are neccessary...They dont use SW geneseed because they think it is too unstable or causes mutation...plus we are under the very watchful eye of the Inquisition and they think we are moments away from Chaos or whatever...with all this they just dont use it, not that they cant but that they wont. Smurf geneseed is just so "pure" that why would they need to use anythiing else. Plus they have a ton of it. Jonas Stromclaw
Isn't the Canis Helix something entirely separate from the actual SW geneseed? In the Ragnar books the initiates recieve the canis helix before any of their other modifications and can turn into wulfen before becoming true marines. Or is this just a black library fluff screw up? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178379-space-wolves-gene-seed/#findComment-2109299 Share on other sites
KBA
The Wolf Brothers proved that recruiting anywhere else than Fenris just didn't turn out Don't forget about Terra as well. From The Horus Heresy Vol. III: Visions of Treachery; Curse of The Wulfen "The Space Wolves Legion was a close-knit brotherhood and there was a great deal of respect and comradeship between the Space Marines from Terra and the warriors of Fenris. Although the latter troops were organized into their own distinct squads, known as Fenris Bloods and Fenris Hunters, they also led some of the squads of Terran Space Wolves (the Hunter, Claw, and Long Fang squads). The officer corps and the elite Wolfguard were drawn from the ranks of both Terrans and Fenrisians. Both Terran and Fenrisian Space Wolves could succumb to the curse of the Wulfen." spacewolflars
Remember as well that it's a big galaxy with at least a thousand chapters of loyal space marines. It could be possible for another chapter to go feral. Just remember when you plan them out that you have to stick to one codex if you play any "official" games. If I remember right there was a chapter featured in White Dwarf sometime in the late 3rd edition based on spaced wolves. I think they were called the brown badgers or something like that. It was a pretty neat army. SWLars Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178379-space-wolves-gene-seed/#findComment-2109432 Share on other sites
