CPS
After a long-ish haitus from the hobby, I recently picked up my sisters of battle army. Tucked into my WH codex was a page cut from an issue of white dwarf (google tells me it's US292). I went into my local GW and asked one of the red shirts there if they were still good. He seemed kind of new to the game and I don't think he knew when it came from (CA: Zealots was printed after the WH codex was published, as evinced by the references to 'witch hunters army' in it), but he said they were outdated and no good. This was disappointing to me, as I have 20 zealots (Empire militiamen) with 5 custom eviscerators in my case. Some subsequent googling has turned up people talking about using them, but I didn't see anything from 2009. Are Zealots still field-able? As an aside, my searching also turned up a number of people asking where to find the rules online, but I never actually found them. I heard they're on GW's French and German sites (in those languages). Are they online in English? CPS
Welp. Anything useful I can use these models for? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178399-are-zealots-still-legal/#findComment-2109539 Share on other sites
Grabsnikk
You won't be able to use zealots in tournaments, but I would see no problems about using them in friendly games as long as you ask your opponent if they will let you use them. Otherwise all they can really be used for is priests. SJumppanen
I used Zealots untill new IG codex got out. They usualy did their thing, but now i mostly use IG instead as IG soldier is just as cheap and options are beter. Best game for my zealots was the one against Eldar when they destroyed 3 eldar warwalkers and a waweserpent in one game. CPS
I don't have the IG codex, but what kind of options do they have that dwarf 6 eviscerators in a mob of dudes? I AM THE AWESOME
Well to start with, being four points a model helps. Also, being able to take attached weapon platoons (heavy and special) and up to the five infantry squads as ONE troops choice makes 'em pretty powerful. Xelloss
I don't have the IG codex, but what kind of options do they have that dwarf 6 eviscerators in a mob of dudes? I find combined squad a nice trap. Sadly, it's not the enemy who is trapped :) Power weapon only ? Let me laugh Better stat lines ? Who cares ? zealots are 5pts ablative wounds that hide eviscerators. They come, they die, you don't really expect them to do real damage with their melee weapons. Commissar in IG squad ? OK, you won't be destroyed at the end of the turn because you will be stubborn. But you have the same result if you kill more enemies with S6 energetic weapons IG are not 4 pts. They are 5pts with a free sergeant, and have less special weapon less powerful. I understand people like IG platoons, but I will stick with zealots. EDIT : a 50men squad will be extremely hard to manoeuvre, and will be assaulted with crowd control units, that will lock them and exterminate them properly. I AM THE AWESOME
IG are not 4 pts. They are 5pts with a free sergeant, and have less special weapon less powerful. Well if you're looking at it that way, then they're not 5 pts, they're X points for 10 and a free sergeant. But essentially, given the norm cost for Sergeants (as you ARE paying for him, one way or another), they're 4 pts. SJumppanen
I don't have the IG codex, but what kind of options do they have that dwarf 6 eviscerators in a mob of dudes? Point cost per dude is about same without upgrades, but they are more versatile. They can get mortar, HB, AC, ML or Lascanon as heavy weapon and exactly the same special weapons as zealots and flamer is cheaper. You can get up to 5 of these squads as one squad or separately. You can get an upgrade that gives you ld10 and stubborn and add that priest with an evicerator. They may not have 6 evicerators in group of 21, but i rarely had a chance to use those 2 that i did have. (there was that one time with eldars, but most of the time i would rather have IG squad with heavy weapon) Also note that IG may have transport unlike Zealots. Biggest problem with Zealots was the fact that they were damn difficult to get into target or they wouldn't be able to do much.
