Captain Lucas Raziel
hello, Traitors and Heretics. since starting 40k, i have been a loyalist, bringing death to you. but, about a year ago, when visiting a wargaming advent, i saw an Abbaddon the Despoiler model, and A Chaos Dreadnought.... for a fiver. so i bought them, and for a year, i've been tempted again and again. safe to say, it worked. now i have an massive urge to get some Night Lords (blood angels space vampires? pfff, its these guys :)) or some Word Bearers so, what would be the best things for me to buy to start my army (Note, the dread has to go in, it practically turned me) also, i have a balrog model which i'm thinking of using as a Daemon Prince. any ideas? incinerator950
Be aware our dreadnaughts shoot us in the ass. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178437-for-the-nah-death-to-the-false-emperor/#findComment-2109932 Share on other sites
Snakes
unless you want possessed and zerkers I really wouldnt recomend the BForce. (although the possessed have some pretty cool bits for conversions....) Also you could go all out and get the metal shoulder pads with the raised emblem rather than the transfer. otherwise i'd go ahead and get your basic 2 troops and hq and then build up with what you want to field in your army. Vindies are fun, but I love pie plates ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178437-for-the-nah-death-to-the-false-emperor/#findComment-2109937 Share on other sites
Unguis Raptus
The thing with Night Lords is you can do pretty much whatever you want with them as they're split, broadly speaking, into two sides, the focus puritans and the fear hungry fallen. As such you can choose to go fully with one or the other or do some pure guys beginning to lose themselves as a sort of middle man. So you can make a Night Lord army how you want. On a more generalised chaos stand, CSM squads with meltas, champ with powerfist and rhino are your superb standard troop choice and unrivaled troops at mid to close range engagements (you always get a bonus attack in combat). Oblits are your rock solid heavy choice and are good for what they can do. We also get cheaper Termies, I personally run 5 with powerfist, chainfist and heavy flamer, packed into a land raider. Corpse.
Night Lords: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Night_Lords Word Bearers: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Word_Bearers Standard never-go-wrong units/guidelines are as follows: Larger then 6 units inside a rhino and powerfist champ, 2 meltaguns if possible, combi-melta on the rhino so that the rhino pops an enemy transport, to shoot at the stuff that comes out. Combi-Flamer on the champ, since he's usually in the fray. Starting CSm icon is the Glory icon, unless the other icons suit your style better. Check out tactics in my signature, you may find some nice tips for even loyalist forces you perhaps have not tried yet. Zeller
You guys sould really stop worrying about a 1 in 6 chance. It was the same in the previous codex yet I never saw any hate then. Alot of people...you know what, screw it, I won't start that argument, I'll just say we have better units to use and we're still pissed that Possessed, Spawns, and Dreadnaughts have not improved. Drudge Dreadnought
You guys sould really stop worrying about a 1 in 6 chance. It was the same in the previous codex yet I never saw any hate then. Thats because in the previous codex fire frenzy hit the nearest unit in front of the dreadnought. In this codex the wording is vague and we don't know if it means the nearest unit in the dread's line of sight or the nearest unit proximity wise that isn't fully obscured. Zeller
Must they 'improve' in each succesive book? Mortals don't choose their mutations. I think this is kind of like marine players wanting tactical squads to be the do-all be-all unit and not just a jack of all trades master of none unit. No, its a matter of it being a sort of decent unit in the previous codex and a crap one in this codex. Corpse.
Nearest enemy unit to fire frenzy on is different then nearest unit of any side. Shooting at the enemy rather then the closest unit (which is normally yours) is very different indeed. Hashulaman
If you aren't picky you may want to try a bit of each. Find what you like and go there. Thats what i did. I said i was doing black legion for the fluff purposes of using a bit of everything. I ended up liking death guard and plan to do that. Also if you want to, it's not hard to conver regular CSM into cult troops and most other players do not mind. However there is always that WYSIWYG anal retentive type that refuses to acknowledge them as anything other than regular CSM. I avoid those people like the plague. As for the dreadnought. If you worry so much, either put a tank between it and your infantry. Or give it weak weapons like ML and use Frage missiles, and a heavy flamer that lacks range. Or forgo ranged weapons all together and take two close combat weapons, then it cannot shoot and thus nothing happens. Cargaden
What I've done with my dread has been to pop 2 close combat arms on it, and give it a H. flamer and the twin bolter....fire frenzie just isn't as worrying then.....
