Zemox
Was waiting for one of these ^_^ Okay, i decided to go space wolves because of their fluff, the awesome models just came ontop, and the gaming is cool but if i wanted to run cheese i would just go play my eldar or nids, (or guard) just to clear that upp. Another reason is the scandinavian theme, (Im norwegian) so it really appealed to me and some of it actually makes a little bit of sense, the wolf riders really appealed to untill i saw their model(s?) so i think i might useorobos war wolves but unsure about the size, one thing i will do however is getting wolf lord morriag since you get him both riding a wolf and on foot, he is wielding a sword and a shield so my planned FB and SS wolf lord on foot is also getting a really nice model. I have read trough the space wolves novels and they can probably be blamed for tipping me over the edge and getting started with space wolves, i have been torturing myself for half a year now using all my willpower not to just use my money on an army simply because i couldnt wait. Now it seems like the space wolves are about to be able to put togeder some pretty powerfull lists, this actually bugs me because as GW keeps making the codexes stronger and stronger they will all become to powerfull eventually and they are going to have to rerelease the whole game at once with all new codexes and a new edition where everything is beeing rebalanced (this is where fantasy is going). As for the hobby itself i have been playing for about a year and have a nid army aswell as some eldar and a good portion of high elves, the two last ones beeing a little bit to frail at times, so i am looking forward to the new nid dex aswell (rumors are it is going to be this spring, but how long was the SW rumors floating around before something actually happened?:P) So thats me my real name is vebjørn so bjørn the fell handed seemed pretty appealing for a while untill i decieded i was going to make my own company without any special characters, (exeptions can be made for apocalypse and such). Hfran Morkai
Brother Zemox! It appears you priorities are the same as mine! Fluff>Models>Rules. I was lucky enough to be introduced to the fluff by a friend though so I've been round a fair bit. Welcome to the Fang! I'm sure you can smell the ale, no? Ravenger
~ Hail all, Long time lurker here a little history about myself, i started playing 40k in 2000. My first army was Eldar, i enjoyed the options that you could go with in every squad. Sometime after about a year i sold/traded my forces for a Imperial Fists army which I turned into Dark Angels and played as for a year and a half, trying out deathwing/ravenwing groups, and then  built an army of Fallen Angels. I sold this batch in 2003 and bought a nice army of Wolves, i enjoyed marines but i wanted more close combat oriented fighting, i felt this was where the game was most exciting. I had two options here, BA and SW, now in my group we all ready had two players who had BA so i went to the fang and never looked back. The load out on the troop and fast attack in the 3rd edition codex with many options drew me in and my army is probably a company size wise so i dont want to switch nor do i plan on jumping ship. Im excited to join this community and hope to join in feast, drinks, and war! whiskeybent
Howdy all I have been playing Space Wolves (and 40k for that matter) for about 8 months now. I started playing with some guys I know from work and right off the bat I asked them what army they would suggest. They looked at my 6'4" 320 lb Viking looking a$$ and said "Space Wolves... no doubt". So I did my research and read all the black library books and really liked what I saw there. I felt something click and new this was the army for me. The fluff is great, it fits my "wade into the sh&* and start killing sh*&" attitude. I have spent the past 8 months trying to get a feel for the right balance in my rag tag Space Wolves army. I bought some cheap cast offs from eBay, and converte4d some really cheap stuff to make it playable. All the while waiting for the new codex and the new models that would be coming out. I have been lurking around these parts for a while and havn't really said much. buit I am here now and looking to be the best i can be. Cheers! El Scotcho
Hail all!! Another long time lurker, I've finally decided to take the plunge and build the army that I've wanted since I started playing in '96. The thing that attracted me most was actually some of the really good conversions I've seen around the net since then, then the fluff, and finally a change in my play style. U until August, I've always played very defensive, shooty styled armies, Guard and skirt marines. I've finally given up on the gothic girliness of the Dark Angels, and I decided I wanted to play a close combat army. I also just happen to love the viking theme of the army, especially the new squad upgrade characters I saw in my dex preview the other day (don't wanna ruin it for anyone). So here I am, reporting for duty (and ale, lots and lots of ale). Depending on how my first few conversions go (very little need for greenstuff to fix the skirts) will determine how prolific my pics are on the forums, but I have a new camera and I love to paint, so I will definitely put up a how-to once I figure out how to paint them 30k style. Levitas
Old wolf returns after a long time in the warp! I played space wolves way back in 2nd ed, when all the good stuff was in WD. I just loved the the characters and fluff. Had about 1500pts worth of wolves. It was also the first fully painted (not well!) army I had. Missed 4th edition and then started reading the wolf novels, all of them in order when 5th was about to come out. I play for fluff mostly and think the wolves have some of the best. Alas I started 5th with raven guard as I could turn them out wickedly quick. Playing them for a year they are a lot of fun, but the rules fail to allow you to reflect a working and effective force that operates behind enemy lines. But fleet is fun! When the SW dex rumors came out I began to feel the warmth of nostalgia, and the excitement of new plastics. Even if the new dex was broken to all ruin i'd have still picked up the wolves for the frankly excellent new models. I'm not a power gamer and like to make lists that have character and tons of conversions, SW are just perfect for this. My force will have a ton of fluff written about it. I'm thinking wild and erratic wolflord, so will probably include the trickster at some point too. I've painted up a few of the older wolves I could get hold off. Favoring a darker grey of shadowgrey/black/codex grey. With deep reds, browns, and murky yellows. The only thing I disliked about 2nd ed wolves was the neon reds and yellows. Look forward to sharing a few pics with y'all. beatdemskulls
Hello, Been playing since the last SW codex was brand new. It was a toss up between them and the new Ork codex. I choose Orks for the conversions. But, I always kinda wished I had gone with SW's. I have moved on to Necrons, Chaos, Deamon Hunters, Blood Angels, Space Marines, and now Space Wolves. Being a huge Robert E. Howard (Conan) and Sir Edgar Rice Borroughs (Tarzan, John Carter of Mars) fan, Spacw Wolves are right up my alley. It helps my family tree started in Ireland and Germania as well. I just picked up the SW Omnibus and I have been reading the codex a little each day at my local GW. I truly like the fluff, hero, and mythology aspect. With the new dex you can run horde, standard builds, or go total Hero quest. Very nice and thematic. The Grey Hunters rules mean they will play like how I envision SM's should. Rough, ready, ccw, bp, bolter, with stand out squad leaders. Another thing that gets me fired up is that SW colors look good on the table, Greys, reds, yellow, blacks, really catch my eye. One of the few times I have been looking forward to painting an army. I am an average to good table top painter, but have to overcome huge inertia to get started. GW did a fine job roping me in finally to the Fang, looking to enjoy the ride. Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself. White Hunter
Hello, I am completely new to 40K gaming, but I love all the space wolf fluff and hope that I will soon be painting my first miniatures in Fenrisian Grey. Call me a band wagon pup if you like, (I'm new and deserve it) but in hopes of easier acceptance into the Fang...Ale for everyone on the new bloodclaw! Anyway I'll be trolling around looking for advice from all the long fang's and wolf lord's in hopes of learning how to get my Wolf pack in top fighting shape. Raxtenko
Hello. I'm new to 40k gaming as well. I decided to take up the hobby after years of sitting on the fence. So I spent a few days reading up on fluff on lexicanum and reading through my friend's old codexes. The cover art on his old 3rd edition space wolves codex caught my eye instantly and I read through it. In my excitement I went out and bought up a bunch of miniatures to build and paint. Then bam 3 months later I heard about the new codex and miniatures. Slapped my forehead there for being impatient. Well, I suppose that's it. Lord Noble
Vash called me out, so here I am. While I hesitate to call myself a Blood Claw. I am somewhat new to the Fang. Kinda. Anyway, check out my PH GH squad in the Great Hunt thread. Check for updates too. There'll be some soon. To all my wolf brothers (Both short and long in the fang...): Have an ale on me. -J Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178460-new-aspirants-introduce-yourselves-here/#findComment-2110641 Share on other sites
Ulrickthegrey
Well I posted in another thread first, as I felt more compeled to do so. That said, I have been a long time lurker to these threads as AOL kept dumping my spam filter before I could reply to the Validation email. With that now fixed, I am glad to be able to post here, instead of being in spirit, and having to yell at Wolf Lord Lars in RL to answer some questions and talk to him. Anyway, I think I will find myself an ale and settle in. Night Runner
Hi one and all, It's so great to see so many newbies. I'm a 'Bloodclaw' to this forum to, but like Lord Noble I've been in the hobby for 26 fantastic years. With all this fresh blood it will be so much easier for us to fit in and feel comfortable in the forum as we grow, share and help our fellow wolf brothers in the hobby. See you all in the forum and w.r.t your choice of becoming a Space Wolf, mark my words 'you'll never regret it'. BlackJackal
Well I've only been playing 40k for about 7 months now but when I decided to collect a loyalist army I told a friend, "I want an army with awesome fluff, Kick*** characters and some very unusual choices." Awesome fluff - check (everything the wolves are ever mentioned in) Kick*** characters - check (we have a damn dread that saw the EMPEROR) Unusual choices - check (Psychotic recruits in power armour, wolves as a retinue for special characters and wulfen? HELL YEAH) Besides, I'm building a SW army that is entirely built around fluff. Heavy on Bloodclaws and wolf guard, low on Grey hunters and long fangs. (Might not be an effective army but 60 bloodclaws charging across the table is bound to be fun!) Nakuth
Hails & ales! I shan't go into too much details, but you can find more of an explanation as to why I'm hanging about in the Fang more here; near the bottom. I always liked the Wolves, starting way back in the 2nd ed days; where I was just a poor, broke, pup. Alas, I shall admit to being drawn away by the glories of both Chaos & the Sons of Sanguinius. I did, however, always have a thing for Long Fangs. I lost my way during 3rd ed, starting uni, discovering the joys of ale, etc, and found my way back in towards the dying days of 4th ed. Which is around the time I found the B & C. Now it would seem the time is right to finally start that Wolves army I should have back in 2nd. Cheers. dublindawg
Hello, I have been collecting GW minatures for several years. Started out with DA, as I didn't like the look of ultras, or BA and you really couldn't find much for SW. As new miniatures were released i would buy them paint them up and then let them collect dust. It wasn't until the TAU came out around 2000 that I got into serious collecting. However the daunting task of painting an army kept me from taking to the tables at the local game shops (there were suprising few in CT anyways). Finally moving to NC 3 years ago, I pulled out all the old Space marines I had collected over time and saw that I could field a force. However DA had just come out with another codex, making the one I had obsolete and I didn't like the feel of a new one. So I opted for a DIY chapter. I now have 2500+ points of miniatures with a solid 1500 painted and organized for 5th ed. Over the years I saw new SW mini's come and go, aways when I had no money to make large purchases and I didn't really like the look of the 13th company at the time. However with the approach of the new codex and mini's next month I have readied myself to don the wolf pelts and ready the ales. That being said I have been extracting basic looking SM that have yet to be painted up for conversions once the new box sets come out. While I am not a big fan of the powery blue that 3rd ed brought to the SW, I love the gray color scheme and the frozen tundra that is the home of the SW. I may have to go with a lost chapter so I can get the deep gray look that I love to paint up. Now I just need to get a few more of my buddies into the game, may have to let them use my SM, Orks, and Tau forces to get a feel of the game and allow me to learn the tactica of the Space Wolves. El Scotcho
Hey dublin, just do like me and paint them in pre heresy colors. It's actually fairly simple, just use adeptus battlegrey, codex grey and fortress grey instead of the normal bluish colors. Or you could just make your own founding of wolves, up to you. SpaceWolf13C
hello all, figured i would introduce myself finally. i've been reading this forum for awhile now. not sure how long ive been playing but i started when the previous IG codex came out (not the newest one). i started playing with them but discovered i didn't like the army as much as i did the models. then i seen the wulfen models at my hobby store and i crapped myself. so i researched the space wolves and discovered that not only are they space vikings with an affliction, but there's a group of them that have been travelling the warp, kicking traitor @$$ for 10,000 years. and they've been loyal to this day through all kinds of unimaginable temptation. this immediately lured me away from the grey knight army i was looking to build. so i've been playing 13th company for all this time, mostly with proxy models, cause i kept hearing about a new codex and i kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting.... so anyways i cant freaking wait to get a codex in my hand so i can build my 13th company list and begin the conversions. i've been waiting forever to see if they were gonna be possible in this new codex or not. thanks to Decoy for your tactica on 13th company. it was quite helpful starting out. oh yeah, can someone help me with this keg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178460-new-aspirants-introduce-yourselves-here/#findComment-2112412 Share on other sites
Brother Tiberus
Hi all... Well, I've always been a fan of the look of the SW from the previous dex, but being a new player found that the rules a bit too complicated to really start with. That, and I joined on the cusp of the 5th ed. being released... Now I just became too distracted in making my own Chapter (color scheme, fluff, etc) that I never really looked at the SW again. Until now... The new sprues look fantastic, and if the history is really fleshed out I'm going to really enjoy it. So I will be coming to the Fang soon! As for why I like them, who doesn't like Vikings in space? They're awesome! I love the Norse feel to them and the look of the feral models. Plus the killer rules help too ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178460-new-aspirants-introduce-yourselves-here/#findComment-2112423 Share on other sites
EisWulf
I have played since I was 13 going down to a store called Slaughterhouse games. Wonderful place, spent more hours there then school really. Got interested into WH40K when the owner was holding a “Fresh Meat Training” Seminar there one day. Got hooked with playing with the rules at the time. Took me over a year to build my army and once that was completed I started playing them. After a year and eight months I decided it was time to fallow the Slaughterhouse rules for there competitions. Each army must adhere to the current Rule book, current Codex, and must be painted with at least a minimum of two separate colors. Myself and my friend decided to each do as much research into each company style and select one. He chose the Blood Angels, in truth I think it was his calling, and I was left with no other choice because I felt the wolf within stir and rage for battle, so I became a Space Wolves army. Took me almost a month of consistent playing to get down the rules of the Space Wolves army, but I loved every minute of it. Now that the new Codex is due for release I am awaiting my copy and converting my current army to match the new Codex standards.
