hi to everyone

well..long time wolf player and enthusiast!

been in the hobby for about 17 years now and have never been so XCITED about a codex release before!! "games day here i come!"

hope to be posting alot in the future as the slow process to building the new grand company of my wolf lord "berek thunderfist" comes to fruition.

New Aspirant -

Okay have been collecting space wolves for about a year and a half. Got the old codex and started buying minatures and painting them. I am okay at painting no where as good as some of the guys here though. i only started playing in the last 4 months or so because I always wanted to have a my army somewhat done before playing. I know kinda anal but I wanted to make sure I showed the space wolves chapter as much respect as I could when i fielded my army

I got into collecting space wolves because I read the books and they touched my inner wolf. And now a new codex is coming out and looking forward to buying it and working out my army list.

Unfortunately i work about 80 hours a week (at work now at a client, started at 6 am eastern time this morning)and don't get to play or paint as much as I would like.

I love the rough and wild feel of space wolves , but not dumb but an animal instinct and passion in their attitudes. I also love the pack mentality, makes me feel that are a closer chapter than others. I also like their style of combat, in your face.

Kinda like when brothers argue or fight, but if an outsider picks on one they side together.

I hope to learn alot from the people here.

Thanks for reading.

That being said I have been extracting basic looking SM that have yet to be painted up for conversions once the new box sets come out. While I am not a big fan of the powery blue that 3rd ed brought to the SW, I love the gray color scheme and the frozen tundra that is the home of the SW. I may have to go with a lost chapter so I can get the deep gray look that I love to paint up.

There's really no "official" color for the Space Wolves. Some like a very bright powder blue with Codex Grey, others like the darker Shadow Grey, still others like a darker or less blue grey. You can find examples of all different styles around, paint the Wolves in whatever shade of grey you want, as long as it's a grey of any kind it will likely work just fine.

The new sprues look fantastic, and if the history is really fleshed out I'm going to really enjoy it. So I will be coming to the Fang soon! As for why I like them, who doesn't like Vikings in space? They're awesome! I love the Norse feel to them and the look of the feral models. Plus the killer rules help too :)

What do you mean "if the history is really fleshed out?" The Space Wolves already have one of the most extensive backgrounds of any chapter. For more information I direct you too the Space Wolves: A Comprehensive History article. Contains pretty much all info on the Space Wolves up to the new dex, and will include that come October. Enjoy.

Not to be a kill joy but Berek Thunderfist and Mikal Stenmark are both dead ya know? Ragnar Blackmane now leads Bereks former Company.

thats very true! both died fighting the forces of chaos....but it still doesnt stop me doing it....my 40k and all that ;)

but alas it was a typo...it should be BEREK DREADCLAWS great company....im currently re-reading all the space wolf novels...got bereks on the brain :)

Afternoon Wolf-Brothers,

I think I count as a new Wolf player, having not yet played a game with my Wolves. Have been painting them for over a year now though, so might have them ready in time for the new Codex. Unlikely though, as it's taken this long to paint FOUR models. Only another 16 to go. And a drop pod....

Loving the look of the new sprues, will have to get some. That way, I might have a fully painted 1000 point army in time for the next Space Wolf Codex ;)

Thanks Vash113, I'm going to have some really good reading now ;) I didn't know about this article, I've only been reading the Codex's and some of the novels that I could get my hands on. Other than that, I don't know much. But now this is something to really sink my teeth into. Oh dear, I think I just punned...

Ive been in the hobby for about 8 years and have played mostly marines and 'nids. Im toying with a 13th company but i'll have to find out more about there fluff befor i decide.

And like many members of this forum my prioritys are usually models>fluff>rules, but since i started thinking about space wolves its become Ale>models>fluff>rules

I like to think of myself as a seasoned player with my Blood Angels (been playling with them for about two and a half years now) and I figure, hey I've just about got them topped off models wise, what's next? To be honest I've always been a bit interested in the wolves, since i read their omnibus i guess (good bunch o' books there) but at any rate, I'm currently writing up the fluf for a wolves successor chapter of sorts and will post it when I'm done, in the mean time I'm sticking to my Saints, and waiting for the new codex to be released to decide what my first buy for the wolves will be. :tu:

@Brother Aeroh: Welcome to the Fang! As a heads up, the Space Wolves don't have any successor chapters because our geneseed can only be safely implanted in aspirants from Fenris. However, there is nothing to stop you doing a Lost Company.

A good tip for all the aspirants wanting to learn about the background of the Space Wolves is to read Space Wolves: A Comprehensive History in the Librarium, which is written by one of our Rune Priests, Vash, and is a very good introduction to Space Wolves lore.

Welcome to the Fang, one and all!

Cheers

Hey All,

First off have an ale on me - and to all the longer toothed elders in here, i'm in awe at your sheer wolfishness and ability to drink enough Ale that would comotose a meer pup like myself :0)

I am a long time lurker on this thre and for the last year or so i have been trying to work out a colour scheme for my Space Wolves. A few years back i was an avid space wolf collector, then after getting a new career a new girlfriend and a new house i started collecting the wolves again. (about 3 years ago i moved house the GF has been here a bit longer)

I have managed to paint a new Long Fang - Its a mix of watered down Fenris Grey (so the pigment seperates slightly) over Fortress grey hilighted with codex grey. Unfortunately after playing around with the Camera for an hour i cant take a good enough picture to show you all, but my question is this:

I want to call them the Blood Hunters - would it be acceptable from a SW POV if i painted the the Blood Claw and Grey Hunter Armour red to symoblise this? Bare in mind i am more of a Painter and converter than a gamer.

I really liked the Fenris Grey colour of the above mentioned Long Fang but i like to add some variety to the army and i think having everything one colour might cause me to stagnate from a painting POV.

Your thoughts please?

For Russ and the all father!!

Greetings young 'un! I am Mikal one of the Fangs newer Rune Priests! It appears you missed the welcome party over there so don't worry if a Wolf Guard turns up with combi-melta to obliterate us.

Their your models, do what you wish brother.

Welcome to the Fang! Now where's that ale?!

Welcome in, mate. Pull yourself up a chair, nab an ale and a steak, prove your worth.

In regards to the idea, just make sure you don't get mistaken for Blood Angels. In regards to "Kosherness" of it, I don't think that a renegade faction of Wolves would be above repainting their armor to more accurately reflect their mindset, but I don't think they'd forgo the wolfy bits at all. And maybe, somewhere, they might leave a splash of grey, just because.

Other than that? Sounds good, mate.

Welcome to the Wolves.

A loud hail and welcome to all of you, brothers! Good to see new blood.

Literally. Good to see new people shedding blood in the bar fights 'round here. The old stuff had gotten awfully familiar.

I raise my drinking horn to you all. and my shot glass, repeatedly.

Welcome to the Fang and have an ale!

Post an intro up in the new aspirants thread to tell us a bit about yourself and have a read of the Space Wolves comprehensive history in the librarium.

As far as I know, a Wolf Lords word is law for everything in his great company including the colour of their armour so they can be any colour you want. I would follow Decoy's advice and keep the wolfy bits on them, you are a Space Wolf after all :P  .

Cheers

Welcome to the Wolves.

Wolves wouldnt be wolves without the wolfy bits, so without a doubt they will be staying!

In terms of the Armour colour i was thinking more a darker red colour. I did a test Mini a few weeks ago, Chaos Black with Gore Red over the top. Looked great, and with the black showing through made the armour look worn and no chance of them being mistaken for blood angels ;)

Cheers for the input guys - if i can get my camera to work properly i'll get some picks posted up!

Thats another nice idea Warhorse,

I'd better make this my last post otherwise i shall be accused of Hijacking the thread.

Lookout for WIP and no doubt countless questions in the SW forum - Managed to get the camera to take decent pics at last!

Hey all, coming over to the Wolves from a DIY vulkan army. Vulkan is a very straight forward/reliable and fast becoming boring army anyway you play it. Drop Dread/stern, mobile MM bikes+Speeders, or Hammernator rush are different fundamentally but in the end rely on lots of rerolls and provide expected results.

Looking forward to the bigger bag of tricks and rich fluff available (Especially Stormcaller & Lone Wolves!)

Excited to get to know this part of B&C better

- Earthen

Welcome young one! I am not so sure what you see in Stormcaller being a Rune Priest myself, I would much rather throw bolts of lightning great distances at my foes or prevent our enemies trying to get the upper hand on us but each to their own!

And our fluff is certainly second to none, be sure to check out the comprehensive history available in the Librarium to get an overview of our mighty chapter.

Hey all my first post here but i've been in the hobby on and off since i was 10, im a fluff monster more than anything love the lore and the background, played SW when i was 11 then went on to BA been with the greenskin menace for the past few years but i've been waiting to get back into a marine dex and as i cant stand those treacherous coniving dark angels and i dont like codex chapters, been waiting for a new wolf dex or a proper BA one and the wolves came out first yay

I'm gonna be building an army up over the next 6 months complete with background fluff, pics, names for all the WG etc, My army is gonna be built ala fluff rather than ala Uberkill33tlist so i may not be winning a vast number of battles but i reckon i'll hold my own, More on Hengist Ironfang's great company to follow,

Praise Russ

Long time follower of Slaanesh, loved space wolves from the beginning, but practiced my painting skills to do them justice on my Slaaneshi marines, I have come to a level of painting I am happy with, and what better time to start a SW army then with a new codex release?!?! Coming out here in Australia on the 3rd of October, going down to my local GW and picking up a box of new space wolves!!! and making them as grey hunters. It's the kick in the bum I've been needing. FOR RUSS!!

PS: Now to break out the old norse mythology book. ooh, a viking dagger hanging in the office
