Vlk
Well if it is close combat you wish, there's probably noone better than Khorne Berzerkers... the Space Wolves are also mighty close combatants, perhaps one of the best in the game, but they specialite at short and middle-ranged combat (up to 24 inches) in general. Night Runner
Vik is right. Grey Hunters are great fighters and more 'tactical' than Khorne Berzerkers, but one on one the Berzerkers have the advantage. They have WS5, A2+2(cc+bp), Ld9; as well as being fearless and having furious charge. They are also troop choices which means they can hold objectives. Not a comfortable situation to face. But I still take the Wolves every day and twice on Sunday. ZONKEY
But i notice the wolves still get bolters and frost weapons ...which would prove more useful , but i in combat can the wolves hold there own against orks and other close combat armies ? True. As I said the GH are more 'tactical' with bolters and cc =bp. But they don't get frost weapons; the Wolfguard do and they are only a troops choice if you take Logan Grimnar. With regards to holding their own, I have defeated the Orks on more than one occasion with the 3rd ed codex, infact I am commemorating my last game and victory against them with a vignette. I have posted some pics in my gallery. Thorgrim Blackwolf
Welcome to the Fang! Have an ale! Wolves can go both offensive and defensive in the same army, without much change in composition, and you can take a charge and dish it back out harder than most units can take it. Our basic chracters can break most other IC's over their knees, and our special characters should come with a health warning in CC. Our basic troops are some of the best in the game currently, and will only get better in the new codex. We have endless conversion opportunities for models and our fluff within the 40k universe is second to none. Did I mention we drink ale and have the best after-battle feasts in the 40k universe. Join the Sons of Fenris, you know you want to :D Cheers Thorgrim Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178466-looking-for-the-best-close-combat-marine/#findComment-2110517 Share on other sites
Grimmwulf
Space. Vikings. Still not convinced? Play Khorne then. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178466-looking-for-the-best-close-combat-marine/#findComment-2110527 Share on other sites

Redbaron997
If you want THE best CC, it would be Khorne Berzerkers. But SW are not far behind and are more flexible. Vanger
Um.. point for points it's a tie between Khorne Berzerkers and Grey Hunter, because you can buy 1.5 GHs for the price of 1 lone 'zerker -_- 'zerkers are indeed better on the charge and in CC and really that's all. They don't have flexible options or flexible uses. Grey Hunters are imo on par with them (point for point) and they will have the same flexibility as the standard CSM. So if you want just CC madness, then go with KB, if you want tactical choices, flexibility then go GH. Also Khorne marked chaos bikers are still better then BC bikers will ever be. On an army scale Chaos is limited. If competitive play is your thing, you'll be forced into using Lash princes and Obliterators. Some people hate this, because it destroys the mood, some people just don't care, they take what gets the job done. Space Wolves surely will have their cookie-cutter combos too (either WolfWing or Bloodcru... I mean Cyberwolves spam :D ), but SW is a unified army list, so no matter what you take, its still SW (and not some sneaky-pansy lapdog of a Chaos God you detest). So if you want a unified look, a theme that goes through your army SW are better then CSM. And last, but not least, do you like grey/blue or red better? :D As I'm sure, you'll want to paint your (soon to be) glorious army, the visual aspect is/can be a deciding factor. If you like red better go Khorne, if you like grey colors better go SW. Oh and one more thing! The models. Current KB models are a bit old and some proportions are a bit off (no wonder, they are called sometimes bunny-eared :D tough if you are willing to shell out some cash, then Forge World does some incredible resin bit kits (even for terminators, those are Incredible!) and if you throw the CSM kit into the mix (especialy for hands and weapons...) then you can get decent looking KBs. On the other side the new SW sprues are awesome, incredible and beautyfull! They have a wast amount of diverse bits, options and all cool stuff, to make an SW army look BAD ASS!!! And don't get me start on those gorgeous terminator figures! And all plastic! And out of the box! So chose mate, and don't forget, you can always start another army :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178466-looking-for-the-best-close-combat-marine/#findComment-2110820 Share on other sites

Hrathnar Flintfang
Who is better, WHO IS BETTER? Pup, let me tell you something. When you have a madman running full tilt towards a group of heavily armed foes swinging a massive weapon and screaming at the top of his lungs, do you know what happens? They get shot, that is what happens. I don't care how big and scary and mean you are, or how many deals you have made with some blasted chaos god, a bolter shell to the face is still a bolter shell to the face! We are the Sons of Russ! Russ the mighty champion who spent his childhood living among the wolves of our great Fenris. Russ the mighty warrior who was chosen to retrieve his fallen brother to stand trial. The blood in our veins gives us amazing power and speed, it makes us something more than any other chapter could dream of. We are fast as lightning, we are hard as thunder. We strike down upon our foes like the might raging snowstorms of Fenris herself and leave nothing but the crushed bodies and smashed vehicles of those foolish enough to stand in our way. And why do we do this you ask? Because we know enough not to stand in the line of fire! A Khrone Berserker is nothing more than a Blood Claw who has traded his last bit of common sense for a little bit more resilience and a fancy weapon from some painfully minded 'god' of killing. All of the close combat power in the Imperium means nothing if you can't close the gap without taking fire! We hunt as packs, lurking and stalking though ruined city streets and immense canyons until we are close enough to rush in, cutting our foes to ribbons as they feel the panic that comes with being prey animals. If we cannot find the cover to move up closer then we simply have our Rhinos and Landraiders and all the other machines we so often carry do the work for us, carrying us forward to the battlefield rather than running around in a large killing zone. Like it or not pup the fallen bastard children of some brain-addled gladiator cannot compare to the wild, feral cunning of the Space Wolves. We may lose ourselves in the thrill of routing our foes face to face, but at least we have the good sense not to walk into enemy fire! Night Runner
It gladdens this old weary heart to know that we have saved another warrior from the clutches of Chaos (or even worse the Thousand Sons  ) and brought him into the fold. A choice well made. See you at the Wolftime!
