HELP!

I read all the way through the painting and converting thread, and did a forum search to no avail. I'm am looking for a way to paint some pre-heresy colored Space Wolves, because I can't stand the baby blue. If anyone can link me a how to or describe in detail how they did theirs I would be most appreciative, and would give them a keg of my special homebrewed stout.

My colour scheme is considered to be pre-heresy by the guys at my GW as I hate the baby blue that GW saddled us with.

Drybrush Adeptus Battlegrey

Hightlight using Codex Grey

Badab Black wash

That gives you a colour similar to the SW colour scheme in Horus Heresy: Collected Visions book, which is a good reference for pre-heresy colour schemes.

Now, where's my ale?

Cheers

Thorgrim

I do like your minis, but for mine i think I wanna stay away from the bluish power armor and go more towards the almost black that I've seen in sourcebooks. So I have to say, only half a keg for you Night Runner.

I painted up a test mini, using adeptus battlegrey and the other more white looking greys. I didn't buy any black wash though, so that will have to wait until after work tomorrow. I will take pics and post them up to show you guys, but I warn you, the mini is a Sternguard from the vanilla codex, not a Son of Fenris, so please take that into consideration.

I will tell y'all how I painted him. I used rustoleum black automotive primer, and while most people feel that this is too thick for miniature work, I have personally had nothing but good luck using this product. I then completely painted the mini in Adeptus Battlegrey, being careful to avoid the small joints in between the armor plates. Then I highlighted this with Codex Grey, again avoiding painting over the small joins in between the armor plates. Then on half of the mini, I highlighted with Fortress Grey, taking the same precautions as before. Next, I plan to wash the mini with Badab Black thinned with water and with a drop of soap added to it, to get an even coat. This is the picture y'all will see tomorrow.

BTW, since I know someone will ask, no I do not plan on leaving the mini half and half like this, unless it looks particularly impressive, then I might

Okay so I lied, I didn't take pics until a few minutes ago. I blame the all the beer I drank last night. Anyway here's a pic. My Pic I'm not really sure how to put the pic up in my post so the pic number is P1014945 if it takes you to the menu of my different minis.

As far as the painting goes, I think I like the darker grey better, so next I will paint a guy in the full dark grey and see how he looks.

hi

I tried something a while back that i found i liked .

fortress gray with a wash of very watered down chaos black .

it produced a nice looking mini , I was thinking of using it as a colour for my wolves but decide to stick with sw gray . I am thinking ofmaking a codex marine army in it though .

So I have figured out the official paint scheme for my great company. First i prime them black, then a base coat them adeptus battlegrey. Then I use highlight them using a mixture of codex grey and badab black ink, roughly 75/25. Here is a few pics of the marine (not sure if he's a grey hunter or blood claw yet)

sorry about the pic size, not sure how to change that yet

Anyhow now brothers, I have another favor to ask. I need to figure out a good way to paint the geometric designs that make up the pack markings, but I have already figured out that I'm quite terrible at it. So I ask, are there simpler ones than those shown in the codex, perhaps from previous editions. And also if I could see pictures for reference purposes, it would be worth 2 kegs and my profuse thanks.

hello my floridian brother. For my pack markings i make triangles then touch them up. for instance blood claws have yellow and red pack markings, so i first off paint it yellow, then carefully make red triangles. hard to describe, but pretty simple. I will try to put pictures up for a nice tut. However i must warn because it is freehand, Not every single blood claw's markings will look EXACTLY the same, however i feel that is more realistic anyway. Anyone interested in a little tutorial?

Three good answers in a row! its like some sort of jackpot. so now all I have to do is buy a printer, because painting straight lines and I don't get along at all. I will however attempt to do the triangles, who knows maybe it'll work for me for once. Luckily I just finished a new batch of stout, so i have plenty more to go around. I will get to the painting after the work-a-thon tomorrow and see how my attempts come out.

@ Night \Runner, I am familiar with that tutorial, but I've actually never owned a printer in all my years of computing, I always used the schools and since I graduated I haven't ever needed one, so next payday I'll buy one and attempt, because while I am pretty horrible at certain aspects of painting, I have been putting decals on things since I was 6 years old (thats when my mom got me my first model airplane).

@ Warhorse47, thanks man. My painting style is pretty simple, but very effective, because while I am lazy, I like my models to look good, so trade off by painting them to a high tabletop standard, but I have only ever based one model, in my 12 year long 40k career.

Ok new update. While digging through my boxes of stuff from moving down here (sadly no marines to convert) I discovered this little beauty gallery_48045_4054_1586108.jpg now hopefully I can paint pack markings, seeing as how I now have a visual reference. As for where I got it, well I vaguely remember wanting to start a Space Wolves army 5ish years ago and never getting around to it. I bought the old grey hunters box, and traded most of the bits away. Hit me if you want, because I now realize that I should have started that army and saved myself a lot of trouble and heartache. Oh well, what happened happened, too late to change things now.
