Back to the original question what do you normally pack in your army? A pack of wolf scout coming along the flank of his back field might work well. Use the wrecks of his newly wrecked tanks for cover. Grey Mage Posted September 14, 2009 Share Posted September 14, 2009 I recently was playing in a tournament , 1750, and my first opponent took the following : 6 chimeras with 5 storm troopers with 2 melta guns per squad. 3 exorcists ( the d6 strength 8 "whirlwind" ) 2 ( heavy flamer tanks for sobs cant remember name, fast attack choice ) with 5 sisters in side with 2 meltas and 2 flamers. How do you beat that list??? I seriously cant think of anything besides large devastator squads with lascannons, or maybe vindicators? I dont care who you are, how do you take out 12 tanks? or at least enough that you have a chance? On top of that 3 exorcists!! I am seriously drawing a blank, maybe you can help or post up and other people could post up what they have found to work against that list. At 1750pts, with wolves? No problem. MM attack bikes and scouts to take out the Exorcists. Sit back with GHs in cover and use Plasmarifles, vendread, and WGBLx2 *CML anyone?* to pop their transports. Then bolter the survivors. Im thinking... bring alot of troops, supported by dreads. OR DP in alot of troops, supported by dreads. Pop transports, eat the crunchy snacks inside. Rinse and repeat. Though if you DP get those flamers gone first. The open toppped for firing out of a vehicle was removed in 5th ed. Unfortunatly, for DH/WH it still exists. As it's a rule in our Codex, and like our Heavy 3 Assault Cannons Codex trumps BRB. We still have dedicated Transports as well. WooT. :) WH Chimera's have 2 Fire Points, and no mention of the hull mounted las-guns. Edit: It does lead to the exciting rules debate about open topped vehicles allowing all passengers to fire. :) Have fun with that one! El Scotcho Posted September 15, 2009 Share Posted September 15, 2009 I think you should rematch this person when the new 'dex has officially hits the shelves, and hit him with 4 grey hunters squads with 2 meltas and a powerfist apiece, some wolfguard with 33 point terminator armor and a couple of venerable dreadies all mounted drop pod style and see how he likes it. If I remember correctly (which is by no means a sure thing, too much oktoberfest ale last night) the bad thing about the exorcists is the random number of shots and their scatter. It seems to me that if you got into his lines quickly enough, he'd be rather hesitant to shoot and potentially hit his own troops with that fire power. I'm not so sure about using OBEL scouts in this situation, because they have a much lower survivability rate against heavy bolters and multilasers. I think maybe if you used the long fangs hugging cover, all armed with lascannons and with a lascannon razorback, that might help a little as well. In the new 'dex, we no longer have attack bike squads, just blood claws who can have one attached to them, and land speeders with 2 multimeltas for 30 points additional. You could run with 9 landspeeders with heavy bolters and multi meltas. Also the redeemer land raider has a higher transport capacity than a standard variant, and its ap3, and it costs less too, so that may be an option to look at transporting your troops in.
