I don't remember ranulf's fluff. Can you tell the tale?

Certainly.

*clears throat, dims the lights in the Fang and begins the tale*

Every warrior who attains the vaunted heights of Wolf Guard is a true hero, a warrior born and victor of a thousand fields, yet one Wolf Guard's saga towers over all others, the saga of Ranulf. Said to be the largest Space Wolf in the chapter’s entire history, he rivaled even the mighty Leman Russ in size. Ranulf was a great hero in his day and remains a legendary figure in the chapter's history. Most inspiring of the battles in Ranulf’s saga however is that of his death. On a distant battlefield a force of Space Wolves was retreating after a defeat at the hands of the Orks, rare as that may be. With tens of thousands of Orks closing on the retreating column, Ranulf and a force of Wolf Guard turned to hold a narrow pass against the Orks. With the narrowness of the defile the Space Wolves could take on a handful of Orks at a time rendering their vast numbers almost worthless. Hundreds of Orks fell to the guns and blades of the Wolf Guard as they defended the rear of the Space Wolf retreat, piling the corpses of the greenskins so deep that the defile was nearly walled off. Yet nevertheless Ranulf and his warriors could not last forever and the Orks eventually whittled them down till Ranulf alone still stood. Yet even so mighty a Space Wolf could not survive forever and in the end he fell, surrounded by the corpses of his many foes. When the Space Wolves retook the pass, they found the bodies of Ranulf and his warriors un-defiled. To their surprise the Orks had hastily constructed a cairn for the fallen Space Wolves, seated the dead warriors on it, and surrounded them with piles of Ork wargear. To the Space Wolves Ranulf will forever be a hero of epic proportions, but to the Orks Ranulf was nothing short of a god. To this day his Terminator Armor rests in the Hall of Heroes, towering over all who view it.

Well there you have it. :)

sweet! I thought that was the guy :) that story always warms my heart and inspires me to make my wolves as imposing as I can make them.

on another note I've decided I can't take it any longer and i'm going to shorten his left arm just a smidgen...at first I was nervous about clipping and shaving but I must remember that only if one strives for perfection will one ever learn anything and push their own boundaries.

thanks for all the support...I'll let him sit a bit and then when the painting starts I'll blog about the whole process...here is my 1500pt tournament list to be done by january 23rd 2010:

  • 3 weeks later...

I only have one thing to say before I throw in the towel and vanquish 40k to a corner of a small cupboard (right after i've mopped up the swimming pool at my feet seeing as i've been drooling over your wolf lord) - AMAZING WORK - now let's see him painted!

Ekkanus

thanks dude...we all have to start somewhere though and if you saw the first baby blue on white basecoat marines I ever made you'd pee yourself lauphing. and paint will reach this gentleman slowly as I want him to be the best of the bunch :P

thanks for the reply.

For a minute there I thought you had a crazy land raider config with both Hurricane Bolters AND Twin-linked Lascannons!

that'll be next time...although I do have a vindicator that can sport a whirlwind top

Your Wolf Lord has inspired me to start my own like him, but he's nowhere near as awsome, but I agree that your is trully worthy of sage of the bear, even so I think it was a sage created just for him

honestly, when I heard of the saga of the bear I chose it before knowing what it's rule was....ahhh more pictures tomorrow! I promise!

Well, it took me ages, but here is a picture of Ranulf by the extremely talented Kim Syberg, as featured in Whitedwarf many moons ago ^_^

Hope that gives you some ideas.
