BAD: no cult units, no oblits, no defilers, no dreads, not many tanks, not many heavy weapons

Chaos undivided preferably, Daemon Princes are okish as are possessed and daemons but very very very few

GOOD: Chosen, Cultists (kind of hard now), support weapons, assault weapons

edit adding and removing things

Space Marine Codex...

I hate to say it, but they do not adhere to many daemonic things. Including icons. (Cultists are the main icon users.......)

Your better off using the loyalist codex. AL won't even use the icon of glory if they are purist. If, you were to model them like such they would stand taller (and bigger) then a regular marine. Its noted they all are as big as their primarch.

Lexicanum is indeed a good first stop for info, but it can sometimes be guilty of paraphrasing, and by its very nature does not contain the depths of knowledge on any one particular subject you may wish to learn about.

Congratulations on picking the best legion :tu:

On the surface, CSM squads with the IoCG for troops, Cultists using summoned daemons rules (one particular example here), and Chosen, particularly ones with robes :(

If you want to delve a little deep into the fluff, using loyalist equipment/models suits modelling opportunities.

Some people believe, as Marine With A Mullet suggests, that fielding a force from C:SM is a valid choice.

Or equally, some traitor guard can still count as Lost and the Damned.

Really, almost anything goes with Alpha Legion in the end; it depends on how far you want to interpret the fluff.

(Follow the link in my sig to dive further down the rabbit hole...)

Fluffy and competitive rarely belong together.

In the Alpha Legions case... You're looking at a woeful picnic basket during a famine.

You'd would seriously be better off using the Loyalist Codex.

Probably using Shrike as your HQ, and infiltrating random things. Or you know. Infiltrating a lot of things.

EDIT: Stroke of genius right here.

All Scout Army. Infiltrate. And call it an Alpha Legion Training School B)

I agree, unfortunately it also often suffers from poor citation, fan fiction influences and lack of info (as you also pointed out above :P).

As a side-note, the BnC is currently working on providing more accurate info for anything Space Marine. You can follow the development here in the Librarium.

Edit: and here for Chaos Marines.
