Glorious Terminator Charge for the win

So I pulled out the old Daemonhunters last night for my first game (1750) in about 10 months, been stuck in Fantasyland for a while.

Played a mech Eldar list, 2 wraithlords, 3 warwalkers, 4 serpents, with Dragons, Scorpions, Avengers & Guardians.

It was capture and control and his wraithlords were defending his objective, so that's where the Land Raider headed straight for carrying my GM and 4 of his finely armored friends. I shrugged off about 8 brightlance shots getting there, loosing the MM and AC in process, but the gas pedal was pressed down and the boys combo charged the wraithlords.

The glorious charge proved to be rather impotent, as the GM missed his attacks, no force here, and the terminators managed only 2 wounds, mostly thanks to the heroic deeds of the thunderhammer wielding knight. With two Wraithlord's still standing they promptly hit with all four attacks and i failed all invuls leaving, after careful consideration, only the Thunderhammer marine. Facing down 2 wraithlords, the brave knight was undeterred and kept slamming away mightily for 5 rounds of combat until the constructs were no more. Then with the enemy objective a mere 8 1/2 inches away, he promptly rolled a 6 for consolidation and was close enough to contest giving me the win!

Sometimes out-of-date equipment is OK!

I was really hoping that I could wipe them out on the charge. If the GM would have hit, going at I5, and managed to Force Weapon one, that would have left pretty good odds with 9 NFW and 3 TH to take down the other one. That would have been epic.

Oh well, it worked out well anyways, just not as planned.

Nice!

My last game against Eldars had the same mission and a similar situation, although at that time the LR shoot one wraithlord, and the GKT+BC handled the other one while killing a farseer(?) + some minor xenos along the way. Eldar players really need to watch out for our moving castles containing a surprise :HQ:

im a NOTORIUS Farseer sniper. (The Emperor LOVES Psycannons!!) Its always a good day when you see thier face, watching you snipe off the farseer guiding the Wraithlords/Wraithguard from 36' out. And PLEASE let the Avatar come charging in. Had THAT particular bit of luck in a tournament. He charged the GM with 6-man Retinue. Lets say that the poor avatar never even got to swing.

Eh? The Avatar is I6. Even if you somehow argued that Sacred Incense applied to him, he'd still be I5, fast enough to strike nonetheless.

Am I missing something?

Thanks, Gentlemanloser. You have the right of it. Awesome, thats one of the biggest things. Let the Avatar charge, cause it forces him to go last. But now that i think on it, does Sacred Incense say Daemons also, or just "All Chaos"??? dont have my codex out here in the desert. Little help?

No you are right. The Awesome one appears to have treated the Daemon's charge as being through difficult terrain so striking at I1. That is an incorrect interpretation of a pretty clear rule.

You roll for their assault range "as if" they were moving through difficult terrain. They do not count as assaulting through it.

I think its clear too, but disagree with you. The rulebook says models who take a difficult terrain test when charging have thier initiative reduced to 1 unless they have assault grenades. The logic (I assume) is that they are moving slowly into assault range and so are vulnerable. Same thing as daemons assaulting GK or heirophants. Having said that, my group leans slightly towards RAI rather than ultra strict RAW, simply because the rulesets aren't tight enough IMO. If I played someone who disagreed then I dont really care as long as its sorted pre game.

Of course it would take 10 minutes for GW to sort all the DH 5th edition issues out and we'd all be happy.

Hmmmmm.....

I am going to go and read the wording carefully now! I have no problem with anything which makes this outdated list more useful!

Ok I am back:

...if an assaulting unit had to take a difficult or dangerous terrain test during their assault move, all of its models have their initiative value lowered to 1 when attacking, regardless of other modifiers

All Daemons attempting to charge Grey Knights must roll dice for their Assault range as if they were moving in difficult ground

Does that count as taking a difficult terrain test, or are you just rolling a dice for your Assault range as if you were moving in difficult ground?

Exactly. thats what give GKs the chance against, say, Bloodletters, who on the charge would be I5 S5 with all power weapons. Its the GK chance to whittle numbers and not get slaughtered before they ecver had a chance to blink.
