Favourite Wolves Character

Since acquiring the new dex, I have to say my favourite is Lukas the Trickster, hands down.

He 'accidentally' locked an inquisitor and retinue in a breeding pen full of rutting groxes. He had his second heart cut out by the dark eldar, and was left adrift in space - so he lives, and puts a stasis bomb there as a replacement. He made a prank call to trick an ork warband into a civil war, and lured a Word Bearers Lord into making planetfall on thin ice, drowning hundreds of chaos marines. He is also rumoured to have shared 12 beds in a single night, back in his womanising days before becoming a space wolf.

The guy's a complete ass. But he does it so well!

That guy sounds like a SW version of Loki the scandinavian trickster god.

Lokus the Trickster = Loki the Trickster?

How could say such a thing!???

On a serious note: Ranulf. I may just have to use Arjac as a "counts as" WG Ranulf- the most badass non-primarch marine to ever face an Ork and die.

Mine would have to be HAEGR THE MOUNTAIN the way he beleives shouting at fleeing enemies will make them return so that he can thrash them is wonderful.

Also to be honest I like most wolf characters though I have not seen the new codex yet.

Icewolf

always liked Berek Thunderfist for his quote "Oathbreakers, I am Berek Thunderfist, look upon me and despair, The Allfather knows your crimes and has set his Wolves among you"!! and of course Haegr, the time his "Manly Girth" prevented him extricating himself from a ventilation shaft to aid Ragnar and Torrin against the DA kill team was one of my favourite moments, His final assault on Madox of the Thousand Sons was awesome too.

(not) sorry if this is bumping-but mine (apart from Russ himself, the first GW model I ever bought) has always been Durfast,Champion Of Mordrak.

I have always thought the Space Wolf Captain fitted his description-and he is my Wolf Lord.

This is a hard one, too many to mention. I remember seeing Ulrik and Njal in a White Dwarf over 10 years ago, when I wasn't really involved in the hobby. I thought to myself that these two are truly badass warriors, wonder what these Space Wolves are? Little did I know then that I would end up playing them many years later. :P

But still, I will have to go with the Young King, The Allslayer, Ragnar Blackmane. Leader of one of the most iconic, if not the most iconic, Great Companies, utterly ferocious in battle and with a great sense of honour in an Universe lacking it.

^^ This...

Originally the stories of Njal and Bjorn that got me interested in the Wolves and I still love their stories.

The quote above is to me representative of what a bombastic Wolf Lord should be like and so Berek is also one of my favourite characters.

Oh, and I use Haegr as a counts as' Arjac <_<

Ranulf - after seeing that conversion in an old white dwarf (back in the day when converting metal was bloody difficult!)

Haegr - I just loved that book to bits, he might be funny as hell, but he can't half fight!

Ragnar - much as I dislike how he has devloped in the SW books (sorry its just Conan!) I really like his older fluff, and that model, despite being utterly dated now, still looks awesome (and if the guy who sculpted Kosarro Khan sculpted a new Ragnar I would be a very happy man!).

Bulveye, because you have to respect the guy.

The Emperor tells him he will most likely die if he takes on Russ' geneseed, but he does and lives. He goes on to command the 13th company, serving to the point of following Magnus and crew into the Eye of Terror never to rest until the mission is complete...

That and Wolf at the Gate is an awesome short story. ;]

Hm... With the slew of new, old and revamped characters in the new dex.. holy crap is this tough.

I can't say I have any single favorite, but listed below are the SC's or notable Space Wolves I like most.

Wolf Guard Ranulf - Was there ever a mightier Space Wolf? Ranulf moved a dead Land Raider hull into the gap of a lava flow so that his brothers may reach safety from the volcanoes. Then he died holding off a horde of orks, who then took his body and made it into a shrine to himself.

Lukas the Trickster - Sneaky, like me.

Canis Wolfborn - Big friggen wolf. Need I say more?

Njal Stormcaller - Holy whallop, Njal is meaner than ever before.

It has to be Logan Grimnar for me. Ever since I read the account of the the First Armageddon War way back in White Dwarf whatever it was and how he alone of all the leaders of the imperium stood up for the little guys. A leader who puts doing the right thing ahead of doing the expedient thing is someone you can admire. The likes of Ragnar, Ranulf, Lukas and whoever else are all brave and deadly warriors, perhaps in many ways more colourful than Logan Grimnar but what sets the Great Wolf apart is that he stands for something. He gives the whole chapter a strength of purpose, a noble bearing that would be sadly lacking in his absence. He gives something that even Russ seems not to have given to the Space Wolves, for without him the Wolves are just a set of glory seeking, battle loving warbands, yet under his leadership the Wolves are a set of glory seeking, battle loving heroes.

It is not what you do, but why you do it that makes a hero. Logan Grimnar gives the Space Wolves a much better reason why. The Space Wolves without Ragnar, or Ulric or Njal are still the same chapter. The Space Wolves without Logan Grimnar would be a pale shadow of themselves.

Garviel Loken.

Recommended to be in Horus's group of advisor by ROGAL DORN! That is some referee! Just such a likeable Astartes. :D

Oh, SPACE Wolf, right, right, right.... :wallbash:

For me, Ragnar Blackmane. I was early teens when he came out, and any character who is pitched as young makes for an affinity. The model was awesome and though he is static in pose these days, he still looks pretty good.

Awesome in cc and courageous/headstrong = all the things a boy could want!

He is a clear echo of Leman Russ in load out, looks and philosophy. Very cool. I guess I have always liked him. I haven't read SW novels to date but they sound worthwhile as spruiked by you guys....

The story of him leading SW against Tyranids made him a person. I don't remember many other written pieces like it at the time?

Yeah that story did it for me too-Haakon getting cut in two and the funeral pyre at the end-thats classic SW for me.

While the novels are awesome and all, they dont capture that same feeling for me-2nd edition 40k ruled.

Wolf Guard Ranulf, my reasons being:

- Largest Space Wolf ever, other then Russ

-Pushed a broken down Land Raider into a lava flow to get to safety

-Did a last man standing against a whole Waagh, to save the Great Wolf, and when they return to see his fate, the orks built a orkish temple around him with tons of weapons, thinking he was some kind of god....

he is what i based my wolf lord off of. if i ever make a fluff little story to stick with my data sheet i will post him here some time.
