Wolf Lord Durgann
Quick question for those that have seen the codex.... How many Terminators do you think I can field at 1000/1500/1750/2000? Just trying to get an idea if I bought enough. Got 6 boxes... which is 30 terms. One will end up having to be my Lord. Ronin_eX
They are incredibly flexible for what you get and you could get as few as three or as many as five squads of five in 2000 points. If you want more then make heavy use of the basic power weapon wielding Terminator because the powerfist armed version is just as expensive as normal. A basic squad like this: WG Terminator Squad - 4x Terminators with Storm Bolters and Power Weapons - 1x Terminator with Assault Cannon and Power Weapon is 195 points even and carries the same ranged firepower as a Deathwing squad of 250 points (add in a Drop Pod and it is still cheaper). But go to something more standard using power fists and you get this: WG Terminator Squad - 3x Terminators with Storm Bolters and Powerfists - 1x Terminator with Storm Bolter and Power Weapon - 1x Terminator with Assault Cannon and Powerfist That comes out to 235 due to the savings on the "sergeant" (one with the power weapon) which most armies pay same price for. But this squad lacks any means of deep strike so a drop pod is needed to put it right on par with those squads which brings the cost to 270 but provides a Deathwing Assault like ability with a much safer form of deepstrike. Then you can, of course go crazy with them and have a small squad of characters: WG Honour Guard 1x Terminator w/ Wolf's Claws 1x Terminator w/ Combi-melta and Frost Blade 1x Terminator w/ Combi-plasma, Powerfist and Cyclone Missile Launcher 1x Terminator w/ Frost Axe and Storm Shield 1x Terminator w/ Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield Five unique minis, each a veteran of many campaigns and the squad comes out to a whopping 295 points before adding in a drop pod or, better yet, a dedicated Land Raider Crusader to ferry them into assault (with enough room left for a WG Battle Leader and a Logan Grimnar himself... and even a sixth man if you want to pump it up more). A squad of nothing but hammer and shield guys (one with a CML) is even more insanely high priced (as it should be) at 345 points before transport. So you can really make anything from a well-equipped squad coming in at under 200 points to one that reaches close to 400 for the same number of minis. 10-man squads will tend to be about double that of course. And that doesn't even get into mixing up with more than just TDA equipped WG squads (they can go on foot, jump pack and even bike). But as far as going with a pure TDA force you can't go far wrong with them whether you want insanely tough close combat units to cheap fire platforms or anything in between. Wolf Lord Durgann
Thank you SO much! I think I bought to many now lol! Ahh well.. now I need to decide how many I want in raiders rushing and how many I want in Drop Pods.. My goal is to have a holy torrent of fury barring on to my enemy. I want them quivering in their boots and thinking, "How the hell do I stop this?" SamaNagol
Logan is 275 Arjac is 188 in total but is TOTALLY worth it. Wolf Claws are excellent value and a WGT with a Storm Bolter and a single Wolf Claw is only 38 points. Statistically speaking, a Wolf Claw against anything T5 or less is statistically superior to a Frost Blade which costs more. It is when you start giving them Storm Shields and Thunder Hammers that the points begins to sky rocket. Best load out is several single Wolf Claws and an Assault Cannon with a Chain Fist for vehicles. Or you can go all out and buy them all Storm Shields and a selection of weapons and have them accompany Logan Grimnar as a bodyguard. I'm trying to shoehorn Logan, Njal, 3 WGT units and a Dreadnought all in Drop Pods into 1500 pts. Wolf Lord Durgann
wow Sama! Thats something like what I was thinking. I play Gray Knights and I love their play style. One of the reasons Why I'm going for small model count armies. I like them. Less things I need to worry about the better. Besides.. what could be better than dishing out the emperor's justice with an entire army of TDA? grimz
I am considering making an all termy army. Lots of Guys with Storm Bolters and Wolf Claws would be pretty well rounded I'm guessing? Throw in some special weapons for dealing with vehicles and what not? Decoy
Possibly, Grimz. Very shooty, and would have quite a hand at a counterassault. How would you plan to move them? Drop Pods, Raiders, Footslogging? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178948-terminator-army-question/#findComment-2117450 Share on other sites
grimz
I've only just started looking at the possibilities of a TDA army (still looking to get into 40K... i.e decide on an army and list before I buy anything) So just trying to track down a few good threads. I've seen some raiders absolutely demolish in a few games I've witnessed so ... I'd prolly be leaning towards them. Decoy
Well good for ya, Grimz! Welcome to the Fang, and the B&C. If you're looking for a TDA army for possibilities, there's none in the game that can do it better than the Wolves. It's an exciting time for us; Brand new codex, brand new models. It'd be a good time for you to jump in, mate. Unfortunately, my computer is spazzing, so I'm going to have to shut her down a bit (and maybe grab a nap, it's almost 8AM and I haven't slept yet). I have no doubt that the good Wolves of this forum will help you the best we know how. Grab an ale, settle yourself in the Visitor's Lounge, and don't let any of the newbie Claws piss on your boots. Just trying to get an idea if I bought enough. Got 6 boxes... which is 30 terms. One will end up having to be my Lord. Well, you can have a grand total of 40 termies: 3 packs of 10 Wolf Guards in basic terminator armour = 990 4 Wolf Guard Battle leaders in TDA = 440 1 pack leader for each Grey Hunter squad = 198 That's obviously a basic Storm Bolter + Power Weapon load out... I guess the real question is how few Grey Hunters you'll want to back them up... Chodjinn
I'm currently leaning towards a Wolf Guard army over a full terminator army. Two squads of 10 WG in PA, throw in a couple of combi weapons, wolf claws and one or two TH/Power fists etc and that's a very hard squad with plenty of arttacks and plenty shooty. Or even mix the squads up, 3-4 termies and 6-7 PA etc. Probably need one or two Long Fang squads for fire support, some speeders/dreads etc. Many options, good thing about the Wolf Guard is depending on the misson etc you could easily mix the squads up to suit different roles. I'm really liking the increased flexibility of the new Codex.
