Combi-Weapons for my Veteran Superiors; How to?

Hello.

having decided that it is time to get all of my army WYSIWYG i purchased some new Veterans (the Bolter+Power Weaon model as well as the sole Bolter model). now i was wondering: has anyone done a conversion of the Combi-Flamer or -Melta on those models? I don't really have many plastic bits around from the time i played Marines so my resources are a bit limited.

Easier and less maiming: slap on a little bit of green stuff under the gun barrel making a second barrel. Make a little hole at the end. Add other details if you wish. Paint and win.

Obviously bolter-crossbows take a lot more effort... maybe just say the gun fires stakes :P

That assumes the ability to shape green stuff into a nice, even circle.

Somebody has done a fairly good job of crossbows using Fantasy parts.

Personal suggestion - clip way the grip on the bolter, if it is exposed, and save it for something else. Clip off the firing end of a plastic Empire crossbow, trim it to fit where the grip on the bolter was before, glue it into place and use green stuff to clean any gaps if necessary. Alternatively, file the top of the bolter flat, and attach the firing end of the crossbow on top.

My solution for this has been to top mount the combi weapon onto the bolter. Less hassle, as a number of the vet models have the bolter moulded to their legs and easily converted if you use some of the plastic weapons from marine sprues.

My solution for the combi-stake was the crossbow bit from the dwarf thunders box set.

You get a ton of them... and since most dwarf plays prefer guns to bows... you can usually get them for free from someone at your LGS.

A little green stuff to fill the gap and you are done.

The other combi weapons are a little tricky, as the scale of the guns is not the same from marines to sisters.

Heck even in the marine range I found at least 3 different size storm bolters for infantry size models.

Most of the marine combi weapons are so big it looks retarded when a sister fires a gun that is as big as she is one handed.

Some of the IG ones are a little better, but those guys are compensating for something as well.

For storm bolters I used 2 assault marine pistols filed down and glued side by side.

It looks good on the sister and is scaled between the GKPA storm bolter and the SM Captain in TDA.

For the other weapons it is best to just sculpt it with green stuff.

You can use a bit of paper clip for support and an armature.

As to the comment about the ability to sculpt.... if a kindergardener can do it so can you.

I am not being mean, just brutally honest.

I mean they do it with play dough, but you expect us to think that you can't?

And honestly what shapes do you really need to make?

Ball - simply roll the green stuff in your fingers till it is round.

Cylinder - roll the green stuff on a table till it looks like a snake.

Cone - just like the snake but work one end till it is thiner than the other end.

Square box - use the flat of the sculpting tool or a metal ruler to flatten out the ball you made.

long box - same as a square, just applied to the snake instead of the ball.

Most everything else is going to be a modification of one of the above 5 shapes.

Once you have the main shape you just add texture, and that is even easier.

Holes / vents / barrel mussel - use a pencil, pin, nail or drill bit from your pin vice.

ridges / gun grips - use a pencil, pin, nail, razor blade or the sculpting tool.

Rough patches / chain mail - use a file... just press it into the green stuff to get an impression of the file face.

Keep your tools wet so that they don't stick to the green stuff and you are good to go.

My brother's bombi-staker was an Astartes bolter with the bayonet-lug 'secondary barrel' thing (underneath the big one) cut away, and a bit of toothpick, sharp end and all, stuck there. Don't need crossbow arms, just say it's pneumatic or spring-loaded or something.
