13th Company

The Forgetful

Recommended Posts

Greetings and salutations brothers. I'm deeply sorry if this subject has been covered elsewhere but if that is the case I must've missed it. Anyway enough of that. I'm quite entrigued by the 13th company and would like to know how to represent them with the new Codex. Any hardcore 13th company player, or anyone who might have an answer *laugs*, just go wild and elaborate as much as you want. cheers

Will-Do, Forgetful. I'm in the process of writing up a Tactica on how to run 13th Company from the Wolf dex, and I hope to have it up by the end of the week, homework permitting. Check the next page of threads, there may be a post that got shunted down there.

I'll give you a brief synopsis, however:

Storm Claws: Wolf Guard

Grey Slayers: More Wolf Guard

Long Fangs: Long Fangs.

Wolfen: Fenrisian Wolves or Thunderwolf Cavalry.

Mark of the Wulfen being prolific, go figure.

Warp Gates: Drop Pods

Go check ou the thread titled "Wof Guard vs Grey Hunters, I have a question" lower down on this page. I would link to it, but I'm using an iPhone and it's too hard.

I think the 13th company are easy to represent with the new Codex...

Grey Slayers - Just use Grey Hunters. They're essentially the same thing. GSs have 3A on the charge/counter, and so do GHs. Only in later rounds is there a difference. Plus GHs can take the same special weapons.

MotW - Saga of the Warrior Born is as good or better... +D3 attacks... pfft

Storm Claws - Wolf Guard

FWs - Same

Wulfen - With the models, I plan to use them for MotW models in squads - For similar units, I'd say TW Cavalry. S5 fast marines with lots of attacks? Sounds a lot like Wulfen. Hmmm... Maybe since I have no use for my Wulfen models anymore, I'll just get large bases and put 2-3 Wulfen models on each base and use them as TW Cavalry. It actually makes a lot of sense with the Cavalry rules. It makes sense that they would give a bonus to Wolf Morale. With 2 Wulfen, the 2W makes sense (and the S5 makes sense). Haha... if anyone has a comment on this let me know!

Long Fangs - Same

Storm Claw Bikers - Ummm... Swiftclaws are better in almost every respect, and can be in larger squads AND are 2/3 the cost.

That's about everything.

Not to hijack this thread, but what would people think about using 2-3 Wulfen models on a dynamic looking large base (maybe 1 Wulfen on each base sort of leaping through the air) as TW Cavalry? I mean, GW has already said that they expect people to convert their TW Cav! I have 25 (actually maybe 35) Wulfen models... and I can't foresee ever using more than 4-5 models in units even in large games, so this might be a good use for them.

Joink, consider your idea stolen. :)

Ha, ok... well then I think maybe I'll start a new thread about it if you want to do that too. Let's see if others would accept the conversion.

That's a really good idea Voracioustigger. It never crossed my mind to put two wulfen on a cavalry base to reflect the two wounds of TWC. They'd be a perfect option for those not comfortable with TWC.
