cricketofdeth
Hey I am looking to know if a drop podding SW army is any good. I already have like 7 pods, and it's either the wolves with GH and BL, trying to get the most out of meltaguns and counter charge, or a sterguard list lead by Kandor with some assault marines. Where I play is pretty competitive, even for casual play, so there are Lash lists, Nidzilla, and Nobbikers a plenty. Thanks for any insight you can give. Oh, please note, that the preview copy of the dex is unavailable to me at this time. Decoy
Drop podding Wolves have always been good. Now, they're even cheaper, and even better. A standard drop-podding Grey Hunter squad, with two Meltas, runs like... I think maybe 190 points? MAYBE 200? You can field a LOT of bodies in a Wolf Drop Pod list. jeremy1391
you want the most out of meltas???? how about this logan grimnar can grant the squad he is with the "relentless" special rule, put him with long fangs with 5 multimeltas in a pod and pop two tanks in one go :) it is double cool if its two land raiders Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179259-sw-drop-pods-viable/#findComment-2121117 Share on other sites

Or get lucky and pop a Land Raider first time within 12" for the melta bonus and your really off on one! Decoy
Dropping Loganfangs, with our Pods, is just awesome. You can basically target the vehicle you REALLY want to frag. If you roll a hit, you're diverted off the vehicle. If you scatter (even the most, 12"), you're within Multimelta range. It's not foolproof, but damn, is it nice. cricketofdeth
Thanks for the quick replys! My biggest issue with the sternguard list is the lack of units on the field. I really struggled to get 7 drop pods in an army. How does the WG load out work? Can I give the unit more than 2 special weapons? I don't know about Logan, he seems too many points even for the awesome "relentless" rules. littlbitz
Decoy, I don't think you can target the Vehicle in order to deviate the way you are thinking. It seems that the Drop Pod assault rules are pretty clear in that they follow the Deep Strike rules which state that you must "First place one model" which means you have to put it on the table and then roll for your scatter, in order to place a unit on the table it would have to follow the at least 1" away rule. Oh, but Pods are still very good and very cheap for a Space Wolf army Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179259-sw-drop-pods-viable/#findComment-2121190 Share on other sites

You cant increase the scatter distance to avoid a misshap- only decrease. Never put your pods on top of an enemy model- itll just get its but kicked. Decoy
Ah, that's my bad, GM. I thought the Pod auto-diverted around enemy units or some such. I shouldn't give advice on regular Wolf stuff. I haven't played 'em in almost eight years. Hehe. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179259-sw-drop-pods-viable/#findComment-2121497 Share on other sites
Warhorse47
Still, unless your scatter is horrible, putting the marker 1" away, then offload on the nearest side, you should come up in range most of the time.
