Targol
Hi all. I wanted to introduce you to my current work : as the title said a Chaplain with jump pack. First conversions consisted in sculpting a dragon symbol on its left shoulder pad and re-sculpting the top of its Crozius Arcanum. http://idata.over-blog.com/2/62/28/18/SpaceMarines/Chapelain06.jpg http://idata.over-blog.com/2/62/28/18/SpaceMarines/Chapelain07.jpg These sculpts are quite basic (as is the paint job) but it's only intended to be table top. It still needs some weathering and the base will be covered with bicarbonate "snow". After that, I was still unsatisfied with the leak of visual integration of this Chapelain in my Dragon's sons army (see my signature's first link to discover it). So I decided to build my own jump pack to reinforce that visual intégration. Here is how it looks like : http://idata.over-blog.com/2/62/28/18/WIP-SpacesMarines/JetPack34.jpghttp://idata.over-blog.com/2/62/28/18/WIP-SpacesMarines/JetPack35.jpghttp://idata.over-blog.com/2/62/28/18/WIP-SpacesMarines/JetPack32.jpg It has been built using bitz from basilisk sprue, a Necron Scarab, plasticard and GS. The gray traces are remains of milliput juice used to fill holes in order to make a mold on it to use it for my assaults marines too. On the back of the pack, a symbolized dragon spine will be glued as shown (temporary stuck) on a picture of a previous version : http://idata.over-blog.com/2/62/28/18/WIP-SpacesMarines/JetPack30.jpg Spine displayed will be the one used for assault marines. I think I'll sculpt a more sophisticated one for the chaplain. C&C welcomed. Calimehtar
Nice conversion, mate! When I saw the first two pics of the jump-pack, it looked a little bit small but attached to the chappy, it looks the right size! And BTW, nice army, some nicely thought out and well executed conversions! Cheers Calimehtar Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179328-converted-chaplain-with-custom-jump-pack-for-my-dragons-son/#findComment-2121977 Share on other sites
Replica
I like it, very unique. Looks like something marines would have, artistic but functional. Very nice! ~ Replica Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179328-converted-chaplain-with-custom-jump-pack-for-my-dragons-son/#findComment-2122196 Share on other sites

Targol
Thanks to all for these kind words. I'm currently working on the molding of the jump pack. I'll show pictures as soon as I have some. WingsOfTheFalcon
Really nice JP mate, looks very different. Any chance of a shot of the intakes on the top? Khrangar
The jump pack is pretty cool, as is the crozius. Great job overall. Targol
Thanks for the appreciations. I may post pictures of the molded jump pack this evening (French timezone). Any chance of a shot of the intakes on the top? If you're talking about the green winged intakes that appear on the last pic, I can show you that picture of a previous version : http://img.over-blog.com/500x302/2/62/28/18/WIP-SpacesMarines/JetPack15.jpg Since this version, I chose to treat them as hollow rather than in relief because I couldn't manage to build correct protections to avoid my SM to grind their hands in the ratating turbines. That's why they are different on the pictures showing the pack on my first post. If you talk about the white grid on the pack "belly", the best picture I have is this one (little blurry) : http://img.over-blog.com/500x302/2/62/28/18/WIP-SpacesMarines/JetPack20.jpg It's a piece of a space shuttle kit I had in my bitz box. onipunk
Look good, I must say, but for a more draconic feel, instead of sculpting a jump pack, I would use these bad boys. My Vanguard Vet Sarge is getting a set of these when I get Vanguards. My Vanguard Vet Sarge is getting a set of these when I get Vanguards. Wings from MaxMini Thanks for the advice and the link. I had thought to find prebuilt wings but all the models I found looked too organic to avoid the feeling of a chaotic mutation. The wings that you linked to are prety perfect to my mind... for chaos marines. Mines are loyalists that's why I prefer the option of "made by human" iron panels. The idea behind that is that the chapter techmarine has sculped these wings to the jump pack to glorify the great dragon (the emperor). I have some fluff ideas behind to explain many of the conversions and magnetized options for them. I'll try to write and translate the fluff for you one day. onipunk
You could always place a normal backpack on top of them if you wanted, and I accept that he is a jump-chaplain, but you could explain it as like, the jump exhausts are hidden inside the wings. What I mean is, you could sculpt it like GW themselves did on this customized mini HERE. EPK
How about these buggers (though they are more bird-like than dragon-like). And you'll be left with a very mechanicum looking model to have skulking around your army - perhaps the crafter of the wings. Targol
You're both right and those wings look great ... but it seems to be a little late. I already made the custom jump pack and was satisfied with it so I made a mold of it and the first cast pics will come soon. I don't think I'll start from the beginning again. By the way, thanks for the links. EPK
Not a problem. Honestly, I think yours were great and definitely more dragon like. onipunk
True, I do think that the work on the original jump-pack was very nice, and I love the dragon icon on the shoulder. Looking foward to the pics of the cast  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179328-converted-chaplain-with-custom-jump-pack-for-my-dragons-son/#findComment-2135564 Share on other sites
Targol
Looking foward to the pics of the cast :) EPIC FAIL !!! I have accumulated beginners mistakes in my first attempt of creating an RTV mold. First, I used vaseline (petrol) oil to cast the second part of my mold above first one. That didn't work and my 2 mold parts merged capturing my master inside. I had to cut the mold "blindly" to take the master out, destroying the join plan I expected : http://img.over-blog.com/500x302/2/62/28/18/WIP-SpacesMarines/JetPack38.jpg Second, I didn't reserve vents and filling holes on the mold. So, I you can see in above picture, I had to make them afterward. Third, I didn't use casting resin but a leftover stratification resin I used when shaping surfs. The result was not famous as you can see below : Raw piece : http://idata.over-blog.com/2/62/28/18/WIP-SpacesMarines/JetPack39.jpg After a little cleaning and a white primer to see better : http://idata.over-blog.com/2/62/28/18/WIP-SpacesMarines/JetPack41.jpghttp://idata.over-blog.com/2/62/28/18/WIP-SpacesMarines/JetPack42.jpg On second image, you can see bubbles on the vents cones and side, and on the top grid. These bubbles are not too big so they can be filled with little GS work. But the worst is on the side reactors : http://idata.over-blog.com/2/62/28/18/WIP-SpacesMarines/JetPack43.jpg It will be a pain to correct. At this point, I tried a second molding with no better result. I'm seriously considering doing a second (and better, I hope) mold.
