Kreidian
Possibly this is an obvious one but I'm curious on how people would feel about this. I'm thinking of a Wolf Guard Battle Leader, or possibly a Wolf Lord, all tooled up for combat, using the Saga of the Hunter to join a Wolf Scout squad. Obviously they would be using power armor, possibly runic armor. And like the Scouts, they have the ability to Outflank. Assuming they start the game attached to a Wolf Scout Pack, this would mean they can come in on any board edge, including the enemy's, along with the rest of the Wolf Scouts as they are considered the same unit. After all, you can currently attach a power armored Wolf Guard to the Wolf Scouts and do the same thing, so an even more experienced HQ unit with a history of outflanking the enemy should have no trouble with this. This seems like a great way to get a really nasty unit right into the enemy deployment zone. What do people think of such a strategy? Is it even legal? I see no reason why this shouldn't work but I can imagine a lot of people having problems with the idea. Thoughts, Comments? WG Vrox
only one problem Kreidian, Saga of the hunter only offeres Outflank not OBEL. So they would only get the ability to enter from the left or right flank not from behind. Also a wolf lord does not have the option to take the Hunter saga. WG Vrox. Kreidian
Ah, good point on the Wolf Lord. Still you can have Hunter on a WGBL or Wolf Priest. Also you can attach a Wolf Guard to a Wolf Scout Pack at the beginning of the game and they can operate Behind Enemy Lines with the rest of the Wolf Scouts. At least that is how it used to work to my understanding, am I wrong here? I know it used to work that way but being a new codex with a new edition I won't pretend any expertise on the matter. Assuming this is the case it's hard to see why one of the possible HQ units couldn't join them as well. Especially if you paid the points for the Saga. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179406-saga-of-the-hunter/#findComment-2122953 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
You could... but youd have to use the normal outflank rules instead of the super-cool OBEL rules. Natanael
The Scouts+WG+WP combo would be VERY good against gunline armies is Hunter could go BEL. Rerolling those attacks is nice. El Scotcho
Yeah I was thinking of how I could work this too. A WP with Hunter, A WG with TH/CombiMelta and 10 Wolf Scouts I think might be the combo I try. Yeah they can only come in from the sides, but in the games I play thats usually better for me anyways. A question, could wolf scouts in the old 'dex take sniper rifles? Because they can in the new one, in case anyone is interested, for 3 points per scout. Grey Mage
They could in the old one, one squad per army could have them for FREE, on every model. Demogerg
RAW this combo will not work, Saga of the hunter provides the ability to outflank, it does not provide infiltrate or scout, Wolf Scouts can outflank because they have infiltrate and/or scout. When you attatch an IC without infiltrate or scout to a unit with those abilities they lose said abilities. Interestingly enough, if this combo DID work then you would in fact be able to use Behind Enemy Lines because that special rule specifically mentions that it works off of outflanking, and it effects the unit, rather than just "wolf scouts" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179406-saga-of-the-hunter/#findComment-2124919 Share on other sites
