Daemon Princes the size issue.

Ok I was looking over the DP last night and had an idea. Why not mount a lord upon a beast suitably large, and use this as a daemon prince. Now yes the lord can mounted on a steed, but Looking at the stats jump from a lord to the DP the +1T,W and A it would make sense. The WS and S increase could come from a daemon weapon. This would give him the size needed, but still allow one to field a suitably funky Lord in power amour who has yet to rise to daemon hood.

This has been suggested before. The only issue with it is that daemon princes need wings to be useful, but it is difficult to give a lord on a mount wings. Perhaps if the mount had the wings? Like one of the fantasy dragons maybe?

Thinking along these lines, eagles for Tzeentch?? On conversions, large flying spawn etc. I'm not a fan of the daemon prince model and if a players marine force has only just gone over to chaos it would not have a DP. IF is led by a sorcerer this is a way of supering him up.

Flying lizards/ dragons YES. A giant two headed eagle bound to servant of chaos's will, :P its gonna annoy loyal marines.

Honestly, I personally would not have a problem with the idea of someone telling me that their suitably modeled DP with 'beast' body was capable of running as if it had wings... thus using the 'counts as' rules for a DP w/wings.

That's just me, but I wouldn't have a problem with that.

Yeah I've been at it for 17 years with count as etc, but you always get people who complain and forget about the fun side of things. Heck used to work for GW and they did not like me... sure don't buy that expensive space marine captain use your plastic guy instead...... I lasted 2 months. One hangover and a 7am "half hour training session" with no pay...... NO more.

night lord helmet and no man is going to say that your lord doesnt have wings and yes this is not a joke am serious here. official wings on and official chaos w40k GW model. the rules say that wings have to be represented with wings and nothing else , but no where does it says where and what size do they have to be .

Good point on the wings. If people are gonna moan about having wings then just wack some on his helmet. Dark Angels veterans helmet... you know just so he can fly.

I can see it now whole squads of raptors equipped as such!!!!

Anyway the wings can be tucked in, so you can put them out the way.

I think on this, anything that looks like a magic cloud, hovering energy, jet packs, bee wings(oh no bumble bee marine!!!) WINGS organic, mechanical or other are ok.

Any how i've decided on zombie dragon wings......... :)

I've been doing it for years... not mounted on an animal though.

My demon prince. He is a lord mounted on a robotic body that gives him all the stat boosts needed to be a DP. Use to count it as calvary, but since speed is no longer an option he has flight. I just say he 'jumps' over stuff.

I'm not one to spoil the fun but I would like to mention some things ( because we all know at tournies that there are those people ):

First : @IronWinds as much as I adore your conversion of an IW ( if I'm not mistaken ) daemon prince I know at least one person who will complain if his size is not "suitably monstrous " , especially height-wise . I have never ever told a fellow chaos player anything about shorter daemon princes ( and of course never held a grudge , I'm all about good chaotic fun - and conversions ) but proved to be right when I friendly advised them not to bring them to competitive games . There is always someone who's gonna act really weird if the daemon prince isn't of the right size . As a rule , I always try to make any conversion of mine to be of similar proportions to the "original model " , especially if it is a " counts as " ( so no crawling torso-less or standing defilers for example ) .

Second : I assume that for targeting purposes the whole model would count as one ( being a tall , bulky daemon prince ) . At least you would need to say so to your opponent to be fair and have your conversion accepted . If this is the case , then you have to be careful not to punish your self by making an extravagant steed for your "mounted lord "daemon prince .

All in all a great idea however . Support .

And a slightly off topic question : Do daemonic steeds count for targeting purposes ? Are they considered to be part of the model ?
