dublindawg
While the point cost can be subtancial depending on the gear taken, when would it be prudent to take a WBL over a WG as a leader of a GH? Also would it be worth it to add a WBL to a swift claw x3 with AB. So far my plan is to take a tricked out WL on a TW (with a pair of TWC) and a rune priest that will be joining a GH to drop pod in. The total force point I am looking at is 2000pts. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179456-wg-or-wbl/ Share on other sites
Kjarl Sternmaw-Wolf Guard
I would never take a WBL with a unit of GH. I feel they(WBL) would be better suited to more of a close combat role. That is my opinion. I prefer to use GH as supportive with an option to take it to the enemy. I would then only ever take a WG as an upgrade to the GH pack to help them out when needed. I currently plan on running 4 GH packs in Rhinos with 2 having a WG upgrade. The other 2 are 10man/2 special drive by specialists-dedicated. As for your other question; yes. It is a very good idea to take WBL with swiftclaws and an attack bike. Swiftclaws hit like a ton of bricks but become very fragile in the turns after they charge. The WBL makes up for that. Hope this helps P.S. I all rally depends on how YOU play. There isn't anything saying you cannot add a WBL to whatever unit you want. Play it one way for 4-5 games and then try it some other way. You'll soon find combos that work well for you. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179456-wg-or-wbl/#findComment-2123683 Share on other sites

Nadir
Aaah. Eternal question. In mine opinion WGBL for games under 1500, Lord for 1500 and above, or for monster/IC hunting. El Scotcho
I have to agree with our polish brother here. It doesn't really make sense to take a potentially 200-300 point character in such a small game. I'm actually considering the benefits of 4 WGBL's (all armed differently of course) versus a Wolf Lord and 2 WGBL's. dublindawg
Well I am looking at a force of about 2k so the WL is a def. The 2 guys I will be playing the most, 1 loves to use a chapter master and the other loves to fields defilers. Grey Mage
I would take a WGBL over a WG IF: My elites slots are full. If using the current codex, I needed an extra HQ unit to meet my FOC requirements. If using the new codex I wanted the extra wound or saga rather badly. If using the current codex I needed an IC to control a large pack of bloodclaws. If using the current codex I wanted a heavy weapon in the squad. I have enough points left over to allow the "upgrade" and nothing particularly pressing to spend it on, just for kicks. Small point games where I need an HQ, but just want a WG running the show as its apropriate.
