Witch Hunter army up and coming

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I have now decided to paint my Witch Hunters to a fairly good standard. I have a ton of models and will eventually finnish them all one day. But for now I will put priority on things I might need in my army lists.

For now I have started out with a unit of Battle siters with meltaguns, Converted Celestians with optional weapons, and an immolator.

What I should paint next I will let others decide acctually. Basically I would like to paint what can be used in future army lists I will use.

Suggestions what to paint can be taken from this list:

- Battle sisters with melta/heavy flamer

- Battle sisters with flamer/heavy flamer

- Acro-flaggelants

- Repentias

- Sisters of Battle Walker (counts as Lord Karamazov)

- Seraphims with inferno pistols

- Seraphims with hand flamers

- Canoness

- Priestess (in power armour)

- Penitent Engines

- Dominion squad (weapons I have no idea, open for anything)

- Retributors 4x heavy bolters

- Retributors 4x multi-meltas

- Retributors combination of heavy bolter and multi-melta (3 HB 1 MM)

- Immolators*

- Exorcists*

* These I need to get first from the local game store. Order is placed, just waiting for them to arrive.

Here are some pictures of what I working on atm.

Close up on the finnished models:

Thing is, one cannot really see the work on the white armour :( They are abit shiny, due to the fact that I am using a mix of skull white and satin varnish. Also the red cloth is high lighted with orange, perhaps not really seen either.

Converted Celestians

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v378/VashDime/40k/Sisters%20of%20Battle/Celestiansconversion.jpg

Now these will be my Celestians. I have allways wanted a unit that screams "We are Celestians". But GW doesn't have models for them. In the codex the pictures shows them as sisters all with helmets with Fleur De Lys. This is something I was aiming for. But then again... there are only a few models with Fleur De lys.

So I started my long and boring hunt for models with Fleur De Lys on various auctions, from friends, conventions etc.

After some years I got enough to make 2-3 units with optional weapons.

I didn't buy new models... because that would cost me a fortune, if anyone is woundering why it took a long time to collect all the helmet needed.

The model with Fleur De Lys I am using, is from the Immagifier.

So anyway. Yesterday I decided to convert them. Sawing of the heads from the Immagifiers was the easy part. Then came the heads from the battle sisters... Now I couldn't just saw them off. I still need the collar, so I had to cut around it, and basically dig out the head. After that came the hobby knife to cut the space so the new helmet/head would fit.

Took me some hours to complete, vut I am fairly satisfied with the result so far. Now all I need to do is paint them.

That's a serious amount of work!

Great results so far!!!

I'm looking forward to see the whole army painted!

Tchezz.

Tanks mate.

The whole army will take a long time to finnish, as it contains alot of options. Basically what I am after is to be able to create a new army every time I play. Choosing between all the options in the codex.

But I am aiming for a playable army as soon as possible of course. So I'll have too figure out what I want in my list :)

I am not a big fan of mainstream armies, so I'll see what I can toss together.

- Seraphims with inferno pistols
I'd like to see what you have converted for this, and compare it to my own WIP.

Hmm, sure I could do those after I finnish of the Celestians. Though, as mensioned, I have collected over some years, looking for parts and miniatures I need. So over the years I have collected enough Canoness models to get alot of inferno pistols. So my conversion will be simple... just exchanging the bolt pistols for canoness inferno pistols.

Great work Vash, as always. Love your stuff, as always!

Hehe so your hunting me down here ey?

Anyhow those pictures are my speed painted models. I am going for good standard now :)

See you at GRIP.

No offence Vash, if those are Speed Painted then my best painted stuff are really just early WIP stage for you :).

Though, I agree with the other guys. Bring us lots of pics on the upcomming models. I am sure they will look great, as your other stuff :)

I know what you mean. Him and I have the same colour scheme as well which makes it so much worse ;_;

DAMN MY FAT HANDS!!

Thanks again.

Well I have been painting for some years, and I have picked up a few tricks on the way.

Nilsson, if we meet one wednesday night at SPEL, I could teach/show you a few. Hard to explain over the net.

Anyhow, the Celestians are coming along slowly. Got stuck with some PC games... Hopefully I will be done in a few days with them, unless the games are in the way.

Well then, finnished of the Battle sisters and half the Celestian unit.

Here are some pictures.

@deedark

Thanks

So I had a thought here for my Seraphim setting.

Of course I will have many settings... such as the classical Eviscerator on the VSS.

Anyhow, I was thinking of giving the VSS a combi-melta and power weapon. This setting I think could work since my main objective with this VSS and her unit will be tank hunting. With the new rules, the krak grenades will work much better since they allways target the rear.

Would this be something to use?

In any case I'll be converting 3-4 different seraphim VSS. One with combi-melta & power weapon, one with Eviscerator and bolt pistol, one with power weapon and braziers of holy fire, and the last one with Eviscerator and braziers of holy fire.

I use Sacred Rose as well, only mine are the Old style of black robes with red interior cloth. Your painting is done to a Very high standard indeed, and kudos on the helmet conversions! They look very nice and spot on.

One possibility for the Seraphim VSS is the plasma pistol/power weapon combo. This is what I use with my Seraphim w/ 2 TL Inferno Pistols, and it works nicely, plus it lets me zap things like Terminators as well. I use plastic meltaguns for the pistols, chopping out the middle of the gun (just before the muzzle and just after the um.. vent things right in front of the trigger), then gluing the muzzle to the back portion of the meltagun. This is because I live by a lot of SM players, most of whom had extra meltaguns to help me out (IG plastics didn't have meltaguns until recently).

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the reply and suggestion! I love all duggestions that I can get that have facts to back it up.

Though I must say that I wont use a plasma pistol :( This due to that my sisters are using the Holy Trinity, Bolter, Flamer and melta weapons only.

For my infernopistols I'll use all the spare inferno pistols I have from the Canoness "sprues". But if I run out, I'll herras my SM player friends :)

Thanks again.

Like I said before, you and I have the same colour scheme so I'm trying to decipher how you did yours.

I'm guessing white undercoat, gryphonne sepia wash and then paint white with care not to go into recesses? I tried something similiar with badab black but the models ended up looking dirty instead of well shadowed. The brown shadows look really good on your models...

Thanks mate.

Happy to help you out.

1. Spray white undercoat

2. Gryphone Sepia

3. Mix of skull white and Satin varnish to get a transperent colour.

4. Apply one to two layers of this mix.

HE he tanks. I'll look into that :D

Found the theme song for my Canoness that I acctually use from now and then when playing. It's allways on standby on my music player :)

It's when I charge recklessly into the the fray with my Canoness (to gain faith points due to martyrdom).

The Celestian unit is now complete. Or rather... the celestian models. There are 12 models so I can switch between some weapons.

Made an army list that I am tempted to play.

The theme of this army is fear. If it works... well I have pulled it off before with out the Culexus.

Anyhow, run down of the tactics.

Inquisitor "Boo" deploys with his retinue in the heavy support Immolator. In here he gets protection and speed. When the Culexus is in possition, either by infiltrating or outflanking, Inquisitor Boo will pop out from the Immolator and Use his divine pronouncement on any infected unit (hopefully Inquisitor Boo will be out of the Culexus souless range... othervice this is pretty much pointless).

With the Souless effect, and Inquisitor Boo pointing at them and threatning them with the word of the Emperors divine cursing. This will reduce the leadership to Ld4 and also forces them to make a moral test.

There is a high possibility that the affected unit will fail and flee.

Of course, Inquisitor Boo is useful without the Culexus too. If he targets Ld8 units, their Ld will be 6. And the Culexus isn't in my book to shabby either. He isn't the best killer, but he will annoy the hell out of the opposing player.

To protect the Culexus, and Inquisitor Boo, I have MEQ Battle sisters that can threaten the enemy early in the game. Also, Acro flaggelants, and Penitent Engines are moving in fast.

If my opponent focuses on Inquisitor Boo and Culexus, the rest of the army goes free. If they target my Penitents/acros, Inquisitor Boo and the SoB goes free, etc.

I am not saying this is a perfect list or a turnament winner. I do belive that it has potensial if played right. This said, this is a theme based army, made to have fun. Though I am allways open for suggestions.

Awesome list. I've got a penitant engine and an inquisitor lord (no retinue yet) and I wanna run a few experiments with them even though other WH players told me never to field them.

I really wanna field 3xpenitant engines, an elite lord with 6 henchies (2xbolter, 1xplasma cannon, 2x acolyte, 1xchurgeon) and a full squad of repentia. But all three of these units have been shunned by anyone I know that plays WH so its a bit off putting

Plus a full squad of REpentia is gonna cost me over $AUD100 which is REALLY offputting

About the painting. What's that varnish you put on with the white? I've never heard of it...

Edit:

Hmm... Maybe I should rethink my Inquisitor idea untill I can work it better...

Inquisitor (NOT lord) (20 Points)

Gear: Inferno Pistol (+15), Power Armour? (+10points)

Power: Scourging (20 points)

Retinue:

3x Warrior (10each, 30 total), 2 equipped with heavy bolters (+15 each), 1 with plasma cannon (+35)

2x Acolytes (8 each, 16 total), Wearing power armour (10 each), Holding Bolters (+2 each)

1x Churgeon (12 each)

TOTAL FOR INQ ELITE AND RETINUE: 212points ;_;
