Roguemarine
So, i have been getting this from some of the people in the large group i play with, thought i would throw it up here. It has been said that if a WG joins the scouts they cannot OBEL because it does not explicitly state that they can like it did in 3rd....this does not sit will with me, because they way i see it is that the WG joining units still act as a squad upgrade...like they did, you just now have the choice to keep them as a seperate units. plz help Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179841-wolf-guard-joining-scouts/ Share on other sites
Decoy
WG attached to squads are not IC, thus, they are not subject to the USR rules of "If a joined character does not have this rule, the squad loses it." The scout squad, and consequentially a Wolf Guard leading them, are capable of OBEL, to my (Admittedly limited) knowledge. DV8
Wolf Scouts, Page 27 Behind Enemy Lines: If a Wolf Scout unit makes use of its ability to outflank.... Wolf Guard unit entry, Page 86 Pack Leaders: The Wolf Guard act not only as bodyguards ... but also as leaders to those with less battlefield experience. Before the battle, each Wolf Guard has the option of being split off from his pack and assigned to lead a different pack ... Wolf Guard in Terminator armour, with jump packs, or mounted on Space Marine Bikes may not join Wolf Scouts units. While it does not specifically state that Wolf Scouts with an assigned Wolf Guard Pack Leader may or may not take advantage of their "Behind Enemy Lines" rules, I think the spirit of the rule is that any Wolf Guard assigned to Wolf Scouts take on the abilities of the Scouts, since they are "leading them", and not just "attached" as Independent Characters are. As mentioned in the Pack Leaders rule, assigned Wolf Guard are now a part of the pack they have been detached and assigned to. I think also that GW would have specifically mentioned if that were the case (re: Scouts not being able to OBEL with Wolf Guard), becuase if you consider Blood Claws: Blood Claws, Page 25 Berserk Charge: ... Note that this does not apply to other models that may have joined the pack. ... Which indicates to me that Wolf Guard assigned to Blood Claws only get the normal +1 bonus. Just logic/common sense/spirit of the rules until GW FAQs it. Chucku
As others here have ably responded - a Wolf Guard is not an IC and in fact joins the Wolf Scouts unit. Abilities such as BEL are given to members of the unit (IC restrictions in place, of course). The only limitation in print on a WG joining a Wolf Scout unit is with regard to Terminator armor. Roguemarine
@DV8 That same argument about the BC's is what i brought up, so i'm glad that someone else caught that too, thanks for the input. Rokafort Stonewolf
Wolf Guard is not an IC. The rule currently only applies to ICs. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179841-wolf-guard-joining-scouts/#findComment-2128818 Share on other sites
