Grey Mage
Ive heard alot of peope throwing around the idea of Fenrisian Wolf Packs, taken as troops ala Canis Wolfborn, not being scoring units. The restrictions on scoring units are : 1) Must be taken as troops. This we got. Check. 2) Cannot be a vehicle. Wolves are not vehicles, check. 3) Not Swarms. Theres alot of them, but they dont have the Swarm special rule. Check. 4) They dont have a special rule specifying otherwise. ??? So... do wolf packs have such a rule, or are people just confusing the issue with balogne? There is a specific insert that says that Wolves can "never" be a scoring unit, as they lack the proper strategic thought processes or some such thing. Forseti
Sad... *sighs* alright. This is what I get for having a store that doesnt get preveiws. Supernumerary Fenrisian Wolves, though fierce and possessed of a hunter's cunning, do not understand the finer points of military strategy. Fenrisian Wolves may not claim objectives under any circumstances. Toasterfree
how can you contest if you cant claim. they wouldn't know what to do with it. i argue that in order to contest you also have to be able to hold, that only makes sense. OnlyInDeath
You only have to be within 3" of an objective to contest it, no matter what you are. FA, Heavy, whatever. To actually be able to CAPUTRE that objective, you have to be scoring. You can screw over an unsavvy opponent by boosting a landspeeder into his objective to try and contest it at the last moment. Simple, with all the teeth, claws and fur flying in their faces, your opponent's troops are too busy fending for themselves to worry about the objective. They aren't claiming it but they sure as hell are stopping him from claiming it too. Lord Ragnarok
Right to expand....the scoring unit cannot secure the area because a threat is too close. The threat(in this case wolves), cannot claim the objective because they do not have the tactical expertise and intelligence to claim and secure it. Outside of that it's probably mostly for game balance. Taking logan and termies as troops and backing them up with 45 wolves may a large pill to swallow. El Scotcho
Actually that sounds like an interesting idea Rags. It would give you the speed you lack in the Logan's Heroes list, and since the enemy would likely be shooting at the terminators, the wolves might actually survive to cause some mayhem in the close combat phase. It obviously would take some tweeking, but it might be worth it. Gentlemanloser
I was considering that. And I loved the Fenrisian Wolves of old. But at Leadership 5 and a 6+ save, you *really* need to get someone with the Saga of the Wolfkin to make it worth buying these at even thier low cost. Or the first squad shooting at a pack is likely to make them run off the board...
