Cyrox
If you've read this months WD, it seems GW have decided that nearly all Space Wolves should be old and bearded again. I don't know about the rest of you, but i prefer to have only the older seasoned Space Wolves to have beards. Like Long Fangs, the odd Wolf Guard or Grey Hunter, and my special characters. As far as i'm concerned, Sergeants aside, the rest are clean(ish) shaven nutters who crave glory in battle :D And for me, scouts should NEVER have a beard, but thats my .02 :D What about the rest of you? Are you a fan of the old and beardsy look for helmet off mini's, or just the odd one? spectre312
I love beards on my wolf guard termies. I don't really have a major reason, I just assume the older more experienced wolf guard are going to be the ones willing to be into a small tank and trudge into areas. Where as my younger wolves are going to want the added mobility and flexibility of Power Armour. Scouts go either way. They say flat out that scouts are just as experienced as anyone else, they just function better in those roles. So I don't mind the occasional beard. And personally I love the bizzare mohawks and things they added for my Skyclaws and the Wolfguard crazy enough to lead them. cherrboh
i believe someone said in a similar post, that just because they have beards, does not make them space wolves. im not a big fan of having an army of blood thirsty wolfmen pensioners. ill go for the more youthful looking ones, do a bit of converting, or looking for heads from different armys. hendrik
io've said it a few times before and i'll say it again, once a bloodclaws becomes a grey hunter or a wolf scout he's allowed tog row a beard (this to show his seniority over bloodclaws) which would result in anything non- bloodclaw having a beard. it's written in wolf's honour Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180032-beard-crazy/#findComment-2131141 Share on other sites
Cyrox
Just because he's allowed to doesn't mean he has to :woot: Ragnar has no beard :) Its all down to personal choice Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180032-beard-crazy/#findComment-2131211 Share on other sites
LPetersson
Personally I think it looks great, but I hate painting(!) faces/beard/hair so most of my models have helmets on... DV8
It boils down to aesthetics and function, I think. While I love the look of an army of crotchety, scraggly old men (I don't use Blood Claws), I also need easy ways of automatically differentiating between characters, models with Mark of the Wulfen, and regular infantry. To that end I'm keeping helmets on everything, only Wulfen and Characters will have bare heads to make them visibly different. Grimmwulf
Always beards, all the time. Nothing is cooler than an army of ZZ Top look alikes :D The only guys in my army that have no beards are those that i gave a face painting which just looks cooler without beard. FuriousFerret
Just because he's allowed to doesn't mean he has to ;) Ragnar has no beard :P Its all down to personal choice ragnar also never became a grey hunter... hence he's got no beard your right, he skipped over that and went straight to WG. whch still confers that he can wear a beard. so now we're debating whether our little plastic men can or cannot have beards depending on what fictional rank they achieved in a poor, make-believe book set in a fictional universe? :P How many Blood Claws can dance on the head of an Ork? I think I've got the right inspiration for my Wolf Guard. http://www.music-photocalypse.net/gallery/albums/userpics/AmonAmarth1.jpg Edit: Even better pic. For the unenlightened, this is Johan Hegg, of Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth. Bloody hell. Most awesome beard-wearer this millenium. Incidentally, I'm going to their concert in Copenhagen in two weeks. Oh yes. ;) As for the beard debate, all my men except wolf scouts wear helmets. Problem solved. Brother Grius
I'm jealous. I missed their American tour. Hopefully they'll be around in 2010. I have a lot of helmeted marines, but I will be mixing a good number of beards into my units. I'm going to greenstuff a few beards as well, to minimize any duplicates. Hfran Morkai
All my previous marines wore helmets because I don't like painting faces, however with the new heads I will be making up wolves without helmets and from a fluff point I want my blood claws without beards and preferably short hair. (Non-canon fluff though) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180032-beard-crazy/#findComment-2131556 Share on other sites
cherrboh
well, seeing as all my troops at the moment have bolters and chainswords/axes i cant use them as BC, and theirs no way in hell im not getting more box sets, but i dont want my BC to look more customised and personalised than my GH. Just have to get a whole lot of running legs for my BC and youngish looking heads. Im glad the new units have come out now, its encouraged me to finally finish painting all my wolves. Growler67
They are easy enough to remove for those that don't care for them. On the other hand, it's far more difficult for some to add them or find suitable heads with beards for those that want them. That is until now. To each their own on which heads or helmets they choose to outfit their Armies with. Having LOTS of options is far better than not having enough, IMO. Grey Mage
He even states as much in the Novels... "the reason I dont have a beard is I was never a grey hunter" during the preface... and then it goes into the story. I believe that was in "Grey Hunter" actually. Hrathnar Flintfang
Personally I suck at painting faces (I refuse to do it still for most of my army) but beards make it easier in my opinion. You can just start with black then go the pre determined hair color and save yourself half the trouble of trying to get a flesh color out of anything or using a was that ends up covering the whole tiny head! I agree some beards Might not fit blood claws but let us not forget that even as a youth any wolf is going to be 'old' by human standards, and in older cultures you were expected to have a nice big beard by 20. I say mix it up a bit, and keep the big full bushy 'Linux-using IT liaison' beards for your wolf guard and lord. Also try to greenstuff some suspenders and glasses on at least one of them...
