El Scotcho's First Ever attempt at Greenstuffing

El Scotcho

Recommended Posts

So I finally bit the bullet and decided to try putting greenstuff on my models. I must say, it's not as hard as I thought it would be. The models pictured will be Wolf Guard after I paint them, one for a Blood Claws squad, the other to hang out with my Wolf Lord on foot. I really like the pelts I did, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do teeth or claws. Also, I made their great company symbol green stuffed onto their shoulder guards, as I am terrible at freehanding any sort of painted on symbols. Critique, make fun, encourage or share the ale floating around in here somewhere (I misplaced the 30 or so kegs I brought, I told the thralls where to put them but I guess because it wasn't in Mech speak they didn't understand).

Sorry for the picture quality, its overcast and the lighting isn't very good, and I suck at taking pictures.

Again sorry for the image quality. His great company marking is the same as the other. Both are runic T's, representing their newly raised Wolf Lord Torgeir, who has not earned his official deed name yet.

Lemme know what y'all think, or if you need better picture to decide, and I'll send some other Bloodclaw to sniff out that ale.

hmmm nice work brother for your first attempt. would you possibly get some better pics of the shoulder pad its hard to see at the moment.

i like the fur try pulling your blade through it a little bit more to give it a nice frayed war torn look, the thickness is good and youve got good technique already. also remember you can get some very nice fur effects by layering the greenstuff over the bits that have dried already.

Thanks for the feedback. My sis is going to help me take new pics, and since its her camera and she's going to school for photography, I know she'll be able to take way better photos.

As for the layering of the pelts, I thought of that, but I had no idea of how to pull it off. I'll try adding to them after I repost some better shots of the original pelts. Also I'm going to greenstuff a beard for one of my Wolf Guard, and I'm going to attempt making braids. I'm so psyched, because my only other attempt with greenstuff was doing a back banner for codex marines, and it ended in utter failure.

layering is easy to do just simply put another strip of greenstuff over it and start to sculpt, il try and post a pic this evening to show you what i mean.

with hair the way to do it is to roll thin sausages of greenstuff (to the right length and thickness that you are comfortable with) attach them to the model so they look like dreadlocks then pull your knife through them this method does take time so be paitient.

Yeah, I think I hit on a way to do the braids. I'm gonna sculpt the beard, let it dry, and then do the braided parts of the beard over the top of that. The way I was going to approach it was

  1. roll a thin sausage of greenstuff
  2. lay it over the beard
  3. blend it in
  4. then cut alternating scores into it with my hobby knife, not my sculpting tool, to make it look like its been braided

I've seen pics of how people do it on dwarf minis and I'm going to try this, though the head isn't as large. I'm using the screaming commander head from the vanilla commander sprues, with 2 of the service studs cut off (because in my opinion, a Wolf Guard who had been serving for 4 centuries should have made command rank by then). I'll post pics when I have this head done, and see what y'all think of my emerging greenstuff skills (I knew I could do it, I just shouldn't have been trying to greenstuff SMurfs, or Kazoos to borrow a name there0
