DIY Sororitas Orders?

How much leeway is there for DIY Sororitas Orders? I've started down the path of collecting up a small Sororitas force to make my Marine lists a little more fun and interesting.

I'm not a huge fan of any of the established Orders in the Codex. I'm thinking either a silver/teal or bone/purple setup. Simple enough.

But when it comes to names and iconogrpahy, how much leeway is granted? I was thinking The Order of the Avenging Angel, and using all the spare Dark Angels wing and angel bitz I have laying around to spruce up units and tanks for my force.

Would such be acceptable, or should the =I= be the only icons presented by Sisters of Battle?

Sorry if this is a really silly question.

In my research into SoB fluff, I've not found ANYTHING saying that more minor orders would never be created  Indeed, quite the opposite! There are the 6 major orders of the more combative Adepta Sororitas, but most material indicates that minor orders definately exist. In that sense, go nutty ;)

Since you mostly are doing a cosmetic difference (color scheme, bits) without changing any major fluff, I'd say you're right in line with what is established SoB fluff. I hope you enjoy your new allies ;)

And it's definately not a stupid question.

It's best not to think of the orders of the Adepta Sororitas like space marine chapters. Their roots all go back 4000 years to the world of San Leor. In that time their devotional tradition to the God-Emperor have been virtually unchanged. Being armed by the imperium has probably been the biggest, however traditionally each order all have their roots with the founding six saints. All the minor ordos are created by the major orders and fall under the authority of their founding order (distance usually makes assolute autority difficult), but are usually given enough autonomy to conduct their own missions and duties.

Rules-wise none of the orders have had anything to separate them, I don't think there was even a difference in 2nd ed. The main way of making them your own is color scheme. You could design your own order symbol too. About the main constants are that they are devoted to the god-emperor and honor their saints and are dutifully bound to the ministorium and the order hereticus.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Looks like the Order of the Avenging Angel will come to light someday! I'll probably start with a 20-strong unit of Sisters to use as a firebase unit, and then grow from there.

Yeah, I see nothing wrong with this. I like your proposed colour schemes too, they should look good!

All I will say is don't base the Order on Holy Terra and probably not Ophelia either. It's normally best to steer clear of the famous things.
