Another RAW question

So my local shop (where I work) has the codex now and its bought up another debate.

Does a pack 9 GH + 1 wolfgaurd get a second free special weapon.

It says "If a squad numbers 10 models a second grey hunter may replace his bolter with a weapon from the above list at no additional cost " Under RAW then its allowed because it is 10 models. (9 + 1)

So we will be going for yes on that

I think the problem may be that this is all done during the buying time. The Wolf Guard leader is bought later and attached to the squad isn't it? So doesn't that mean at the time of buying the models only are at 9?

You buy a squad of wolfgaurd. But it says "before the battle each wolfgaurd has the option of being split off from his pack to lead another pack"

I agree, the squads composition is decided before you can assign the wolf gaurd.

Would you let a tactical squad take heavy weapons if I said I was going to join a IC during deployment? I have the option, I might even do it, and 9 + 1 still equals 10. Or allow 9 terminators plus Lysander 2 asscannons? For all intents and purposes its the same thing.

But wolf gaurd aren't IC. they are a squad and you have to buy them as a squad (mini of 3 )

These are completely different things with completely different rules. You might as well try to draw an example from the board game monopoly, it'd have about as much relevance as your example.

And for the love of whatever god you pray too can we not bring this topic up AGAIN!!!

In this context its not though both join units at the same time before deployment. Not during the construction of the army list. If this was the case you could never have 2 heavy weapons in a WG squad and make any leaders as you could never have 10 wolf guard. This isn't even an RAW argument, its gamesmanship.

Nope... when you bought the Grey Hunters there was no WGPL attached to it, so hes not the tenth member. You have to have 10 Grey Hunters to get the extra special weapon.
