New and lazy way to paint Fists and Angels

Recommended Posts

So I have been checking out this forum as well as others, and I noticed there was a common trend with alot of painters. Especially Imperial Fists painters and Blood Angels painters. Yellow is a difficult color to get right. So is red in some cases. Some guys like Alex Crute to name just one, gets it right. When it comes to these two, being OCD is a necessity. Some I was looking for a short cut... because I am one of the laziest painters out there. Luckily I have an awesome gaming store called Game Kastle in San Jose, CA that carries the Army Painter line. Mind you for being lazy, I am also a paint snob. Contradiction, yes, I know. Anyhoo, I was asked to try out the Colored Primers. I know what you're thinking, "How good could possibly be?". So, I tried the Pure Red, Daemonic Yellow, and Navy Blue (Provost Marshals). I must say, I was floored. The red is a perfect match for Blood Angels. No need to try and build up layer after layer just for the blocked colors. For me, basecoating is an all day affair. I judge every paint line by their reds. These guys got it right. Now, on to the yellow. A little skeptical. The color chip on the can reminds me more of bad moon yellow than golden. Primed another Marine to be an Imperial Fist. The color was a little light. So I decided to use Gryphonne Sepia to cut down on the brightness. Magic. I would not waste my time and yours writing up a tutorial if I did not think these products could help some of the more impatient painters get some awesome minis on the table. Check them out. Mind you this gets you from bare plastic to basecoat. What you do from there is on you. But imagine the time saved. I am currently using the Red for my STRIKE chapter. Assembly lining the torsos. I am very happy with the results. I will be posting pics in a week to show the squads together. In the meantime check out their website...
