TWC, my hand at conversion

Godhead

Recommended Posts

So I have made two attempts at converting TWC.

The 1st uses a moorhound. i like the model and i'm getting about 4 more.

I don't typically do tourney's (due to location, not for lack of want) so I was thinking of what I can do to convert a fully legal version.

What I came up with draws from fantasy, rifts, someones dognought, and the bits I had on hand.

What I came up with lends me the ability to say that my Company is a member of the ACLU.

Have you ever wondered what happened to those space marines whose limbs have been destroyed, but the rest of their wounds weren't severe enough to be placed into a Dreadnought? (yes I know they can just slap on bionic legs... but why not go one step further)

I present to you my TWC wolftaurs (or whatever a wolfy version of cybernetic centaur would be)

Please remember this is a WIP. I put it together to get an idea of size and feel for the model. I am pretty pleased with the concept.

Please let me know what you think though. I open to suggestion and ideas, as for criticism, I am well aware that im a novice and amateur and some of you guys can do worlds better, but flame away and give me tips to go with it.

And here is the moor hound conversion as well.

PS sorry about the lower quality of pics. My camera just isn't that good.

I agree also, interesting idea.

But (and it's only my opinion) I think if the Space Wolves started giving bionic legs and torsos to their marines they would have the Inquisition on their backs quicker than you could say 'Russ'. It would work really well for Chaos - Demonic Steed anyone - but I am not sure it works for the Wolves. Advise/C&C wise, if you carry on (it's your army after all) then I would join the marine body closer to the waist, unless of course you are going to blend the legs in using more bionics and body armour. And maybe try and bulk out the legs a bit more - they look quite spindley at the moment

The second version I think needs something bigger. Maybe the pictures are deceiving but it looks like the marinee is going to fall off the back.

Please accept as friendly C&C and I will be following this one to see how things turn out

I quite like the idea, but I think the gun on the first model is very badly placed. It looks obscene and hence chaotic. The legs, as mentioned, need bulking out. Looks a bit ostrichey at the moment, but otherwise it's a cool idea.

The second model just looks like he's crushing the poor wolf thing

I agree also, interesting idea.

Why would giving bionics to their troops be considered chaoitc? I have old metal wolf guard models that have the bionic peg leg. And in the C:SM Cassius is supposed to have extensive bionic components hence his T6.

However I did fail to mention that part of the idea was hashed off of looking at my soulgrinders :tu: Heresy I know........

Sorry Godhead, maybe I didn't explain myself well enough. The giving of bionics or mechanical augmentations is not in question here, rather the idea of adding half a marine to a mechanical chassis to effectively make 'go-faster' cavalry. I really don't think that is very marine like, much more a thing of chaos. But as said previously - it's your army and this is only my opinion

Cmon, marines gotta adapt. I mean it's worked for necron lords with destroyer bodies for millions of years. :D

I think I'd have to agree with my brethren here, Godhead. As it stands, Wolves are under Inquisitorial scrutiny for having fangs and liking close combat. If suddenly the Wolves started running around on all bionic fours, it'd be... bad, methinks.

They're decent conversions, but I just don't think the idea flies so much with the Wolfy fluff of it.

out of curiosity, and while i appreciate it is a bit off topic, where does it mention specifically that thunderwolves need to be mounted on 60mm bases? I know canis is supplied on that sized base but his wolf is meant to be the largest of its kind and the size of the base is partly to do with his special ability as well (if he was on the 40mm base the benefit of fielding him alone wouldnt be as great)...

on a more realted note, i prefer the conversion on the second marine, it is more like the artwork in terms of a ridden beast, but i feel that the marine neds to be looking like hes holding onto some reigns or at the least leaning foward more.

i feel the first model, whilst an interesting idea, would fit an iron priest as opposed to a massed unit of cavalry. i agree with what DGC was getting at with the chaotic look of it but i feel that a one off model, with the legs basically representing his servo arms would work better (think a wolfy Dr Octopus).

I also that the placement of the gun doesnt work, although i wouldnt say it looks obscene, merely out of place. It even looks in the side on pictures like an abstract attempt at a wolfs head, which bearing in mind you were attempting a centaur like creature confuses your idea soemwhat.

they are certainly interesting ideas and i will keep an eye on them but i personally would concentrate on working on the second idea

It actually is supposed to be an abstract version of a wolfs head and is not a gun. its kind of in a howling position. However I had thought about angling the head down more, which i most likely will do for my Iron Priests mount. So yes, I do intended to do another one for my Iron Priest who at the moment is mounted on a bike.

I personally like the idea of a squad being mounted on actual wolves, but there isn't a viable wolf model for it that GW produces. (Barring Canis and i have no desire to buy 7 if him) I have zero problems with using the moor hound as the basis for my TWC mounts, but should I decide to participate in a GW sponsored event (I am now very close to Baltimore, MD and could goto a games day or other official events) and I wanted something that was fully LEGAL should the 2nd version not be accepted.

I really appreciate the comments and criticism and would love more to help me get better. I will say that i'm perplexed by the fluff comments about it being chaotic when we have dreads, psykers, a winged primarch, and the Ad mech.
