MagneticFreak
Hello all, I know I cant post point costs, but I will try to make myself clear anyways. A wolf guard in power armor, equiped with a Frost blade comes to X points. A wolf guard in terminator armor and equiped with frost blade and storm bolter comes to X+5 points. Now, that is weird. You get the storm bolter, a 5+ inv save, and a +2 save for 5 points! Comments? WG Vrox
if your posting total points of a model your fine. If you itemize out the cost of single items then thats a no no. yep, from what I understand GW is pushing us to use our WG in TDA. Or the fluffy way to say it is, WG prefer to be clad in TDA. Thinking about it I guess I would too. WG Vrox. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180277-wolf-guard-items/#findComment-2134702 Share on other sites
DV8
Hello all, I know I cant post point costs, but I will try to make myself clear anyways. A wolf guard in power armor, equiped with a Frost blade comes to X points. A wolf guard in terminator armor and equiped with frost blade and storm bolter comes to X+5 points. Now, that is weird. You get the storm bolter, a 5+ inv save, and a +2 save for 5 points! Comments? Actually not quite. Wolf Guard have always gotten Terminator Armor for cheap (in the previous codex, we paid 5 points for it). Yes, we didn't get the gear, but keep in mind when you pay "x" points for the Terminator Armor now in the new codex, you're also paying for the Power Weapon and Storm bolter. So when you "upgrade" to a Frost Blade while wearing TDA, you're not paying full points for one. A Wolf Guard with Power Weapon comes in at 28 A Wolf Guard with Power Weapon and Storm Bolter comes in at 31 A Wolf Guard with Terminator Armor, which includes Power Weapon and Storm Bolter, comes in at 33. A Wolf Guard with Frost Blade comes in at 38 A Wolf Guard with Frost Blade and Storm Bolter comes in at 41 A Wolf Guard with Terminator Armor, who then upgrades to a Frost Blade, comes in at 43. If you do the math, you're actually only paying 2 points for a 2+/5+ save, which is cheaper than in the old codex. EDIt: Actually in retrospect just take the cost of Terminator Armor, and subtract the cost of Power Weapon and Storm Bolter (for a Power Armored Wolf Guard), and you end up with 2 points. :D Go me...that's why I'm in art... MagneticFreak
On the other hand, you have 1 attack less, and you cannot pursue. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180277-wolf-guard-items/#findComment-2134723 Share on other sites
Lord Ragnarok
GW clearly wants our WG in termie armor (new plastic kit), and I'll be happy to oblige them. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180277-wolf-guard-items/#findComment-2134729 Share on other sites
hilander
Unfortunately you take more space in a transport and are not allowed to embark rhino\razorback and you get no sweeping advance...I think the reasoning behind the cost was to limit the mixed power\terminator units where power armored guys would be just cheap wounds wearing stormshields, but that's my call;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180277-wolf-guard-items/#findComment-2134734 Share on other sites
MagneticFreak
Well, even though the Terminator armour seems tempting at first, I will remain to power armoured Wolf Guard Pack leaders. Using a frost weapon, say, will cost me 38 points in total, but will give me 3 attacks, not 2, the ability to take a rhino, and to pursue after a combat. I mean for close combat specialists like space wolves, you need to perform sweeping advances. Brother Amarel
On the other hand, you have 1 attack less, and you cannot pursue. The -1A is a biggie - How much value to do you point on that Attack? GW think it's worth 10-15pts :). Brother-Captain Sicarius
just look at the point cost for a WG in PA, with TH SS and then compare them to a WG in TDA with TH SS... the TDA is 5 points cheaper than the PA...
