rodgers37
I am thinking as one of my lists, having only Wolf Guard (terminators) as my troop choices with Logan, not sure exactually how to make the list, but i find that Terminators can be very hard (with pretection granted..) but wonder what they are like on there own in a 1500pt game (maybe for 2000pts, i then add Grey Hunters squadsx2 and a Long Fangs squad) (oh and Also can anyone tell me the cost of a Multi-Melta for Long Fangs, or is that not allowed? i don't have the codex yet, as i had to sacrifice mine for a week, so someone else could buy it, as i work where i am buying my stuff from) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180484-wolf-guard-as-only-troop/ Share on other sites
Firenze
It is a viable list. It is VERY hard to play right though. Get it wrong and TDA forces come down around your ears but get it right and it can be beautiful. You wont get many boots on the ground but it packs a hell of a punch. rodgers37
Yeah thats what i'm thinking, could you or anyone else give me a list/rundown of how it idealy should be played..... :) (i can work it out for myself, but i would rather go into a game knowing what i am about to do will probably work, rather than maybe work......) hendrik
from my point of view this kind of force should only be used in 3000+ pts games; i just can't see the great wolf pull out his whole (or partly) great company for any minor battle Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180484-wolf-guard-as-only-troop/#findComment-2137207 Share on other sites
El Scotcho
There's only 2-3 ways to play that list. First drop pod everything. This reduces you to 5 Wolf Guard per squad, or 4 in the squad for Logan. I suggest an odd number of squads in this situation, so that more come in on the first turn. Also a couple of squads, in Land Raider Crusaders will allow you to get more guys down the field, and provide you with the numbers needed to win the fight, and some kick ass fire support. Second, you could foot slog everything. This option allows the most actual troops on the board on the first turn, but this is also the slowest option. Here would be a good place for some Swiftclaw bikers, or some Land Speeders. Third is the Land Raider assault force. You take 4 Land Raiders of your choice (I would pick Land Raider Crusaders) and pack them full of Wolf Guard, and use them to tote the guys across the battlefield. As for armament, I've heard people saying to use Combi-flamers or Combi-meltas, but for my money I'd stick with the storm bolter, and give one guy per 5 a Cyclone Missile Launcher. Hope this helps Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180484-wolf-guard-as-only-troop/#findComment-2137224 Share on other sites
utilityzero
i disagree if you mean fluffwise, wolves, like almost all marine chapters, normaly fight as raiders. so logan might decide to hit an isolated enemy force or outpost accompanied by only his most trusted warriors. mean while his WGBL's and priests are leading the rest of his company on other missions. ChaosPhoenix
I'll disagree with the fluff problem too. Standard 40k battles are designed to show a small part of a bigger battle, so maybe 100 Space Wolves are right over there, just behind gaming table ;-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180484-wolf-guard-as-only-troop/#findComment-2137693 Share on other sites
Wolf Guard Dan
I agree with utilityzero and chaos phoenix. the setting for 40k battles are supposed to be one instance of a war. And I think there is an instance of Logan in the 3ed codex that will give you a pretty good idea that no battle is below him. In lesser words, he likes to smash orks for the fun of it.
