Cry of the Wolf priests ><

I really dig Canis, because I can actually imagine cavalry riding giant-cybernetically enhanced Wolves and greatly enjoy the imagery of it. I don't enjoy the imagery of a Wolf Priest rubbing herbal balms all over the owies of his men. I respect and understand where you're coming from Hrathnar, but the third edition codex painted a pretty clear image of tribal medicine being administered on the battle field, and I just found the imagery of it to be pretty silly.

Perhaps if they called it something different? I don't know - I may have been okay if it was just called 'potions' and they left the balms out.

You find it hard for suspension of disbeleif, which often boils down to 'Do I consider this cool enough to ignore the fact that it is genuinely stupid, makes no sense and frankly was written by someone with no creativity whatsoever'.

Yes, that was a really, really REALLY gross overstatement, but you get the point.

If you want to get technical about all of this we could continue to go into the proven real world application of medication based on old apothecary remedies and 'folk medicine' Which can not only include balms and ointment, but FOOD! That's right, Plain, old, unadulterated food!

I could also explain the fact that, while Cains is 'cool' a wolf does not have the body structure to support something that big and that heavy on its back without being the size of a haunched-over hive tyrant or perhaps a Land Raider. Wolves are not built to carry things on their back or even have much pressure exerted there, and these 'changes' to the thunder wolf anatomy don't seem like they would cut it.

But again none of that matters, because you are right, it is silly. Men riding around on giant wolves in power armor is silly, Men compensating for massive explosive impact with topical ointment is silly. Men compensating for such wounds near-instantly with a basic medkit that most likely contains drugs of equivalent potency is silly. 38000 years of tank evolution resulting in stuff that looks like it should be in WW1 or WW2 is silly, a 50,000 year old man who is the reincarnation of shamen who committed ritual sacrifice sitting on the mother of all life support systems being fed the souls of 3650000 people with a 1 in 1000000 psychic gift every year because a couple of people 10,000 years before hand were afraid of what might happen if he tried to ascend to godhood so instead he sits there and slowly leaches into an ambiant energy field parallell to our own that functions exactly like the spirit world in the 'World of Darkness' setting only much more simplistic while clerics using a book written by one of his sons who fell to chaos in order to justify this man as a god twisted everything he stood for in spite of massive recorded evidence that was covered up by the machine cult he himself formed by trapping some ancient star-sucking technophile psudogod on mars so that it would teach the people there how to use advanced machines in its attempt to escape because he needed those machines for the war he would some day wage that he could somehow forsee without being able to forsee that his favorite son would stab him in the freaking stomach because his son got souped up by the chaos gods who tried to use him to kill daddy because he didn't get let in on his daddys attempts to tamper with the webway in a HORRIFICLY cheesy mockery of the 'fall of satan' story which was mixed with old world cultures and Starship troopers and Ridley Scott's Alian and anime and communism and Tolkien and anything else they could get their hands on is SILLY!

But none of that matters, because your mind chooses what it wants to find silly or not, so for you the balms are bad.

So a substance of a cream like nature containing healing elements that will speed of the closure of wounds on an entity already renowned for healing at a visible rate and known to keep going with half their heads missing seems a bit odd to you?

Sorry, but when your metabolism runs that high everythings fast- and if its potent enough to affect a marine it will travel quickly.
