The Wolf and the Lion

Hay now, that is a loaded question there pup. YOu don't want to stir up bad blood for the billionth time this year now do you?

True he did sucker punch Russ, and put cold hard logic ahead of emotions in many cases viewing people as statistics. And sure his sons have over-reacted to a few of their fold going AWOL and falling to Chaos assuming it is their fault because the Lion was best friends with a spineless idiot. But they are our brothers damn it, and it was nobody's fault.

At least that is what you say when your not sure if they can hear you or not. I mean we all know Russ was the better brother, but they were brothers as are we with the boys in green, so let us just leave it at that shall we?

i believe the Leman Russ is better and it was Lion's fault

Well you're hardly going to say in the SW sub-forum that the Lion is better :)

The new SW Codex appears to put all the fault for that onto the Lion, while (using my only source that's now 13 years old and has been superseded by a couple of Codexes) DA fluff has a more balanced view.

Interesting question you ask,

Well the accounts vary between the sources of the telling of the legend.

An old source reads something like this ".... The Space Wolves maintain that it was Lion El' Jonson, who began the feud. Supposedly the two were fighting alongside one another when, suddenly and without orders, El' Jonson broke ranks and led the DA into the attack. The SW found their flank unprotected, and many warriors were slain when the enemy counter attacked. More galling to the prideful Leman Russ was the fact that the DA swept all before them and easily won the battle...."

So who's fault is it? Leman seemed angry not so much as to Jonson's tactically treacherous move but that Jonson overran the enemy with ease. If he was angry at Jonsons tactically treacherous move then it seems Jonson is the instigator.... If Leman was angry because the DAs took the glory then it seems Russ is the instigator....

An older source reads something like this "....the Space Wolves and Dark Angels were to assault and enemy held fortress. Russ claimed the right to lead the attack, but Lion El'Jonson, refused and started the attack early. Russ was furious, and began a feud which was to continue for centuries...."

This version seems to point the finger at Leman Russ, but with such titanic men of legend, it would not be unreasonable to think both had supreme confidence in themselves and should any doubt them, they would be keen to show just how great they were.... but I think the two both made the circumstances into something melodramatic.

Maybe we'll never know what happened as the events are told and retold, the fish get bigger and the older I get the better I was....

As for who was the better Primarch.... well.... we all know it was Horus....

;)

In the new Da codex, itis stated Russ was taunted by a demon price, alling him the lap dog of the emperor. Russ was infuriated by this and he wanted to kill him so he launched an attack. How ever the Lion had laid a careful plan and had studied the demons fortresses weak points and didnt want the Russ's emotions ruining his carefully laid plans and refused to let Russ lead the attack. Suffice to say the DA stormed the fortress killing the defenders, Russ watched as the Lion decapitated the demon prince. Russ flew into a fit of rage, the two clashed for a day and night, then Russ stopped and laughed at themselves, then the Lion knocked him clean out.

I hope you understand that.
