Njal goes to battle...

I have a fantastic, custom Terminator Librarian model that has seen very little action since the Fifth.

I would love to once again build an HQ based around a TDA librarian, and since according to Storm Dragons fluff he's also the Chapter Master, it would behoove me to count him as Njal.

Problem is, Njal is such a terrific point sink with only 2 attacks base, 2 wounds and no instant death immunity. Does it even make sense to put him into a front-line HQ? Or is he better served lurking on the sidelines?

I wouldn't say lurking would be the best bet, but he is probably best when not involved in the front line fighting

Sure Njal can kind of defend himself but his powers are why you pay for him, master of tempests to be more precise.

Keep him safe inside a landraider and/or with a big squad so that he can do his work.

You will have to play with a style based around him otherwise he will be wasted.

If ya lurk him off to the sides, he'll become a shooting target. In close combat, he'll have some measure of protection, though he won't be able to use all of his psychic powers. As you already noted, he's not a close combat gawd like some of the other Wolf Lords. I think you will be best served running him in a Grey Hunter squad, or parked inside a Land Raider as level suggests... though the Land Raider doesn't have any Fire Points and I seem to recall something about Psychers inside a vehicle with no Fire Points...

Of course hes a good front line HQ- but it also goes without saying that you need to put him with a tough as nails bodygaurd to make sure hes still alive at the end of the fight. Try some WGTDA or a GH pack, see how it goes.
