Grey Mage
I'm leaning towards a Long Fang Pack with 2x Lascannons, 3x Heavy Bolters riding around in a TLHB Razorback. Can someone clarify why adding a WG as an ablative wound is better than the cc/bp 6th Long Fang that you can get in your squad? Just to avoid losing Fire Control? I mean...15 pts is less than 18 pts after all. Im pretty sure you cant have a HWless LF in the pack, save for the leader. Emperor's Scourge
Yep...thats who I was referring too. My question was; why is a WG better than the LF squad leader? If you're going for just a regular bp/cc set up then the LF SL is 3 pts less than a base WG. Vilhelm
I'm with jaarl... What makes Long Fangs special is their cheapness. There are only 3 reasons I can see of to pay for a Wolf Guard to lead the pack- More firepower for the squad (cyclone Termie), an ablative wound, or Leadership 9. Cyclones are way too expensive, and offset the cheapness. For me this means they are a no go! Ablative wound? I plan to just take some heavy bolters. That way they are a *functional* ablative wound. They can split fire, so it's not like they dilute the firepower. If you need more of the big guns, take a second squad or give them a razorback. Finally, there's Leadership 9. This is the only compelling argument for me. Leadership 9 is nice- But not quite nice enough for it to be worth it. I prefer to take a nice low cost Long Fang squad, primarily ML's and HB's, and stick them behind some cover within Heavy Bolter Range of at least 1 objective, and forget about them. The special characters and vehicles we need these days are enough of a points sink as it is. Who needs to go nuts on long fangs?
