thousandsons
so logan can give out relentless and tank hunter and long fangs can have 5 lascannons you add in a termie with a cyclone and you have a huge walking unit of deathspitting goodness. But it costs around 560 points or so my question is do you think its worth it to have that walking tank killing monster hunting unit. thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180680-super-unit/ Share on other sites
Sleipnir Frostfang
Hmmm...yer name is thousandsons, and yer in the space wolf forum...are you trying to start a war? :P Personally I think an assault cannon would do better then the cyclone, but as for cost..meh I'd only use it at higher point games myself. Wolf Guard Dan
Eh, cool concept but not as invulnerable to stuff as you would probably like. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180680-super-unit/#findComment-2139288 Share on other sites
thousandsons
my first army was the thousand sons but i have not touched them in a few years. I have mostly been playing my salamanders and iron warriors. But the new model range for the wolves has me wanting to paint some. I was going to paint them in the Red wolves colors though. And if i like painting them i might do a hole army and use the space wolf codex for them. But who knows i knwo people will flame me for useing the wolf codex in place of the space marine codex for the red wolves as they are supposed to be a codex chapter but i dont really care lol. -thousandsons Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180680-super-unit/#findComment-2139291 Share on other sites
maligncomedy
5 Longfangs with Heavy Bolter 1 Pack Leader with Plasma gun 1 Razorback with Twinlinked Heavy Bolter *Possibly a Assault Cannon Wolf Guard Termi ^For Dakka needs 5 Thunderwolf Cavalry: Rider 1: Storm Shield for Bolt Pistol Rider 2: Plasma Pistol for Bolt Pistol Rider 3: Storm Shield for Bolt Pistol, and takes Meltabombs Rider 4: Storm Shield for Bolt Pistol, and Power Weapon for Close Combat Weapon Rider 5: Storm Shield for Bolt Pistol and takes Mark of the Wulfen *Possibly a Wolf Lord: Thunderwolf Mount, Frostblade, Belt of Russ, Saga of the Bear and Wolf Tail Talisman ^For wound allocation abuse. There are lots of things you can do. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180680-super-unit/#findComment-2139297 Share on other sites
Vanger
Well Kong Fangs will be good, but not the über super unit some ppl think. There is one downside to that unit you're describing (Logan+WG+LF pack) that after the first wound every other casualty also kills a heavy weapon in that unit. But if you can keep your distance and fire away, then they are golden :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180680-super-unit/#findComment-2139307 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
I dont think that near 600pts is worth it for five walking lascannons... If I did, Id take some TLLC dreads, or a Landraider Terminus. Nahh... i am joking. Like has been said, i think it would be best in bigger games. i might run something like it if i was playing a vehicle heavy army. LPetersson
Personally I like this idea in a DP army: Logan Grimnar 6xLF 3xMM/2xLC/1xPG WG TDA/CM That should nicely blow potentially two Land Raiders on the turn it comes in if necessary. You just gotta make sure it's backed up by another 2 or 3 pods from somethere... A POLE
rangar blackmane 3 wg with thunder hammer storm shield 4 wg with wolf claws riding in a land radier crusader can have up to 28 attacks from the wolf claws on the charge at s:5 and i:5 then up to 18 attacks from thunder hammers followed up by up to 8 attacks from rangar costs a lot but it could do some damage Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180680-super-unit/#findComment-2139635 Share on other sites

thousandsons
im currently under the impression that people seem to think its over costed and i have to agree though it is really really dirty your right that after 1 or 2 wounds your losing alot of combat ability for the rest of the game. The list i wrote up has a sorta super unit but not to those extreams of the ones mentioned here. it looks something like this... 15 bloodclaws 1 wolf guard with termi armor stormshield thunder hammer. Canis wolfborn and a rune priest with wolf necklace saga of beastslayer chooser of the slain, living lightning and murderus hurricane. And its only really a super unit because i have canis wolfborn in it. And i mostly just have him in the list at all because the model is so cool. I have already started to put mine together and done a little green stuff work on it. basicly just added a beared onto the wolf because i intend to paint him after my old schnauzer. And im really liking the idea of a red wolf army so im ganna make canis the captain of the 4th company though he will be renamed edard and the wolf will be renamed Rocky muwhahahaha. ill post pics in the W.I.P at some point when hes all done. 40k Junkie
What about an Iron Priest on a TWM with 4 Cyber Wolves, Wolftooth Necklace= 165 Grants you 16 attacks @Str 4 & ini 5 (with Wolfkin), 4 attacks @ Str 10 & ini 1, and 1 @ Str 8 & ini 1 While not a Super unit without an invul save, atleast you get 5 wounds and its small so hopefully you can block los a lot, when used right. Seems like a cheap and fast tank killing unit. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180680-super-unit/#findComment-2141056 Share on other sites
thousandsons
i like that unit alot ill have to look at some modeling options. Right now im still trying to decide what wolfs i want to modifie for my list WHF warriors of chaos hounds or WHF wolf riding goblin hounds to be my fenrisen wolves. 40k Junkie
The Goblin Wolf Rider Box is what I use. The Chaos hounds only have fur on the from half and don't look like the wolves in the Codex. Buy whatever you can find since the Goblin Wolf Rider box is being phased out.
