TH+SS for Wolf Guard

Reading the dex entry for WG, I find myself a bit puzzled.

WG can:

Replace his TDA storm bolter with a TH, SS or Chainfist - XX points (point cost removed by me)

Replace his TDA power weapon with a TH, SS or Chainfist - XX points (point cost removed by me)

So, a TH&SS TDA wolfguard will cost: Base Cost + XXX for TDA + XX for TH + XX for SS? If so, friggin ouch, expensive...

Or is it just Base Cost + XXX for TDA + XX for BOTH TH and SS? If so, somewhat tolerable.

Please answer and feel free to pour ale on my head for being stupid.

I don't see what the confusion is.

You purchase a Wolf Guard for his points. You then have the option to purchase his gear, swapping out (individually) Bolt Pistol and/or CCW for Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield.

Alternatively you can choose to take the Wolf Guard, put him in TDA, and then swap out (again individually) the Storm Bolter and/or Power Weapon for Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield.

You're right they are expensive.

A Wolf Guard in PA with TH/SS is 68 points

A Wolf Guard in TDA with TH/SS is 63 points.

I do believe that the TH/SS option costs more in PA because you retain Frag and Krak Grenades, as well as the option to Sweeping Advance, and taking up less space in transports (and being able to ride in Rhinos/Razors), without sacrificing the combat or staying power given by the weapons combination.

think this is another thread that can be closed... the rules are fairly straight forward, you replace a bolt pistol with either TH or SS, then the combat weapon with either TH or SS, you can have two hammers, two ss or one of each... which ever way you do it you pay the points to replace the bolt pistol and then pay to replace the combat weapon.
