Brother Tyler
CHAOS DESECRATOR Legendary Unit POINTS: 550 During the 13th Black Crusade, Abaddon the Despoiler created the Defiler: a hideous combination of daemon and machine. While the Defiler was indeed mighty, it could often prove vulnerable to dedicated firepower. Yet also created during this crusade was the Chaos Desecrator, an altogether larger and more fearsome version of the Defiler. The Desecrator cannot stand up to the Brass Scorpions of Khorne in combat. However, the Desecrator does have another role. The Desecrator is equipped with a pair of large, Hellspitter Mortars. These massive guns lob ordinance into the hearts of enemy formations, destroying large numbers and often scattering the rest. The Hellspitters shells themselves are guided by Lesser Daemons for greater impact and damage. The large size of the Desecrator makes it ideal for carrying advance shield generators, which provide the Desecrator with additional protection. minigun762
I like the idea but I think its a little too powerful. It sounds like its supposed to be larger then a Defiler but smaller/weaker then a Scorpion, but it costs more then either one and has Void Shields. I'd probably knock off 1 S. Point and V.Shield to make it 2/1 then reduce the shots of the Mortar to 1 each (thats still 2 per walker and cut about 200 points off the cost. At that cost, its still more expensive then 2 Defilers with roughly the same firepower (in a different fashion) and more durable (but a single target) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180807-chaos-desecrator-lu4/#findComment-2141638 Share on other sites
JamesI
I'm curious why the range of the reapers were increased. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180807-chaos-desecrator-lu4/#findComment-2146820 Share on other sites
Brother Tyler
The creator has informed me that the range on the autocannons is a mistake and it should be 36", per the normal reaper autocannon rules. I've changed the range in the entry above. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180807-chaos-desecrator-lu4/#findComment-2148280 Share on other sites
Brother Tyler
JUDGES’ COMMENTS: Bannus: BALANCE: Above Average. While more lightly armed than a Titan, I'm not sure that a vehicle that is suppose to be this small should be as durable as the Titan - especially since it appears to be closer to a Brass Scorpion in construction and scope. I would like to see it use standard weapons instead of inventing new ones, too. USABILITY: Good. As a larger version of a Defiler, it will have to be scratch-built to use - but could be very entertaining project to build. ADHERENCE TO THE BACKGROUND MATERIAL: Outstanding. You see these "larger Defilers" in the background of the artwork displaying larger battlescenes - a very astute observation and good attempt at representing that. Corpse.: I like this concept. Trying to maintain the old defiler’s indirect fire role and manage to differ the stats to try to make it fair. I saw one thing, however. No daemon model has a BS of 4 when linked with a vehicle, if it was possessed, a defiler or a soul grinder. This is the only thing that bothers me about its rules. Balance is excellent, since you could get two colossus' for 320 points, this thing is a decent counterpart adding a defiler like role to it. Usability is outstanding, since it fills something chaotic without using imperial guard rule vehicles. Fluff is excellent, while good and strong, it’s a somewhat limited fluff vehicle in both "who would make it" and "why was it made" in comparison to the defiler which is cheaper and more multi-purpose then this vehicle. Gillyfish: Above Average. Too powerful for the points. Honda: Good. I actually like the idea of this one and will look at this one in more depth JamesI: Outstanding. I like this one a lot. A fitting variant on the defiler. My only question is why the reaper autocannon’s range was increased? I probably would go with a smaller version, only 1 Void Shield/structure point and a smaller cost, but I think this one is fair. I AM THE AWESOME
Thanks everyone. It seems different people are finding different problems with this sheet, and as such I have tried to resolve these issues. Here is part of a reply to a PM from Brother Tyler: On the issue of the Super-Heavy Walker - It's odd, really. I opened up my original draft and there is the phrase Unit Type: Super-Heavy Walker right in between Formation and Rules. If it's my fault, I apologize and it was meant to be there. On the issue of the fluff, Bannus hit the nail on the head - it came from studying some of the larger art pieces, particularly the piece on pg. 65 of the 3.5 Edition CSM Codex. You can see what looks like a Defiler underneath the two Titans, but then if you look slightly to the left of this, you can see several smaller Defilers - what are actually regular Defilers. This was an attempt to represent that larger Defiler. Several points were raised on the size of the machine and it being slightly above average in power. This has been duly noted, and as such I propose the following changes: Reduce Hellspitter Mortars each to Ordinance 1 Reduce Structure Points to 2 and Void Shields to 1 Reduce point value to 450 points Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180807-chaos-desecrator-lu4/#findComment-2162197 Share on other sites
