RECLAIMING THE HOMEWORLD

Large Formation

POINTS: 150 + MODELS

Above all else, the Sons of Malice seek to reclaim their homeworld, Scelus. Forced to flee into the Eye of Terror by the Inquisition, they see the latest Black Crusade as the perfect opportunity to take back what is rightfully theirs. In this effort, the bulk of the Chapter is mobilized, supported by their fleet as well as darker powers from their time in the Warp, for a single purpose. Against such terrible dedication, what hope is there for those who block their way?

FORMATION:

1+ Chaos Lord or Chaos Sorcerer

3+ Chaos Space Marine Squad

1+ Chaos Terminator Squads

1-3 Chaos Dreadnought, Chaos Possessed Squads, Chaos Chosen Squads, Chaos Biker Squads or Chaos Havock Squads

2+ Chaos Predators, Chaos Vindicators, Chaos Land Raiders

SPECIAL RULES:

Icon/Mark of True Chaos (25 points): Units with this mark radiate with the pure essence of the warp. All units without the Mark of True Chaos suffer -1WS, -1BS and -1LD values. The Mark of True Chaos must be given to every non-vehicle unit that is part of the formation.

Preparation (free): All vehicles selected as part of the formation gain Extra Armor and Dozer Blades for free.

"Sacrifice the strong, so the Weak may prosper" (free): All units with the Icon/Mark of True Chaos selected as part of the formation must take a Champion whenever possible. During the player's movement phase, they may sacrifice the Champion to temporarily empower the Champion's squad. Until the player's next turn, that squad gains +2S and the "Feel No Pain" rule. Remove the Champion from play. No save or rule of any kind may prevent the Champion from being removed. In the case of squads with multiple Champions, only 1 Champion may be removed per turn.

Fury of the Abandoned (free): Units with the Mark of True Chaos gain the "Preferred Enemy" Rule when engaged in assault with units from the Daemonhunter, Witch Hunter, Space Marine, Dark Angel, Space Wolf, Blood Angel, Black Templar, Chaos Space Marine and Chaos Daemons codex, to represent their hatred for forces of the Imperium and Chaos alike.)

In addition to your normal Strategic Assets, you gain either the Anti-Plant Barrage, Blind Barrage or Orbital Bombardment asset. The player must select the asset at the beginning of their first turn.

This question applies to all of the Datasheets with this rule:

Does this penalty just affect enemy units - or all (friend or foe) units?

Since it states it affects all units without the mark, it implies that any Chaos units without the mark would be similarly affected.

JUDGES’ COMMENTS:

Bannus:

BALANCE: Average. The penalties inflicted by the mark are OTT and hurt this datasheet. Tone them down and we may have something here. The "preferred enemy" seems to cover far too many armies to be "preferred" - perhaps "rage" might be more appropriate.

USABILITY: Good. Not demanding in terms of models, it would be easy to field. With adjustments, it could make for a Chaos "Legion of the Damned".

ADHERENCE TO THE BACKGROUND MATERIAL: Excellent. Great development of fluff - I like this aspect the most.

Corpse.:

I see lots of hindering mistakes in here. No radius of inches on the mark, giving all models on the table negatives to stats (even walkers and titans). But aside from that, I feel there is a larger background to this that's not been shared. Why the negative stats? The free benefits can easily equal the points for the formation alone, much less the free marks with the possibility of adding icons.

Balance is good, Usability is good, and Adherence to fluff is also good. While focusing on average units and trying to add extras, there were mistakes in very open areas even as I consider the range of the marks 6" during the judging.

Gillyfish:

Above Average. (no comment)

Honda:

Average.

JamesI:

Excellent. As said before, I think the preferred enemy is a big bonus. Also, I want to see maximums on units. I don’t like 1+ chaos lord/sorcerer, or 1+ terminators. Both of those should probably be 1-3 or so (perhaps Lord 1-3 while Sorcerer could be 0-3.) But these are not big issues.
