Winterseven
Hi All, Firstly have an ale on me but before the fighting commences please can i get some thoughts on the following. I think the new wolves are great, but like some of my brothers here, i agree that the Ragnar model could have done with an overhaul. So perusing the GW site today i came across the Kosarro Khan model and i thought that with a bit of a head swap and filing off of the White Scar markings, he might look quite cool. I kinda like the advancing pose, i just wondered what your opinions are on the model? Good idea? - bad idea? - advice and comments grealy appreciated Now let the ale consuming and brawling begin :) Cheers W7 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180916-wolf-lord-counts-as-ragnar/ Share on other sites

I only decided against it because in the end I decided Ragnar would never advance slowly and purposefuly, and I couldn't see him using his frost blade two-handed. On the other hand, it is a very cool miniature and I do intend to use it for something. Nadir
I was thinking on that idea a few weeks ago:) Kassaro's model is just great for us Wolves to convert into something more usefull than "just" a mere capitain:) But if you want to make a Ragnar, you have to cut off those heads he is wearing. Anyway it will be better than currently static Ragnar's I-Wanna-Hug pose. Winterseven
From what i have been able to see of the model (looking back through some old WD's) is it comes in 4 or 5 parts, Head, Cloak, Body, Sword, Backpack (although the cloak maybe attached to the backpack) I think by possibly trimming the heads on the belt (or replacing them maybe?) and replacing the head for one of the new ones off the new Wolf Pack Sprue (Like the bravehart style head with the braids?), i think he could look quite cool. He wont actually be 'Ragnar' but he will my wolf lord who is as yet unnamed, well that was what i imagined anyway.... Winterseven
@Marek: Dont quote me on that, but i have seen a reference to him in an edition of white dawrf a few months back and i'm sure it was the body without the head back pack and sword - i'll edit this when i have found the edition it was in..... Edit - Cant find the addition but confirmation Courtesy of GLD Quote: Hey, He comes with legs and torso as one, a sword arm, a bottom hand sword arm, a head and a cloak/backpack/halo combo... Hope that helps GLD Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180916-wolf-lord-counts-as-ragnar/#findComment-2142728 Share on other sites

antique_nova
for frost blades. i hate to say it.....use fantasy bits. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180916-wolf-lord-counts-as-ragnar/#findComment-2142793 Share on other sites
maznaz
for frost blades. i hate to say it.....use fantasy bits. That's fine for the ice shard style blade; the bloodletter plastics for example. For a traditional frost blade, which is a chainsword encompassing the teeth of a kraken as the individual blades, I am struggling to bring to mind something suitable from the fantasy range. I am looking at some jeweler's saw blades on my desk with increased interest, however. stinkenheim
how about using ragnar blade? you could get one cheap off of ebay or use the ragnar model if you have it already. its basically a chainsword, try using one of the fancier looking ones from the new kit Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180916-wolf-lord-counts-as-ragnar/#findComment-2142833 Share on other sites

I've basically cut the bits I like off Ragnar, and when I get my battleforce I'll rebuild him in a pose I want. In the meantime I've used green stuff to rebuild his shoulder pad and frost blade and bolt pistol while I wait. Another potential source I've seen is the two-handed biting blade from the striking scorpions box. I'd be very grateful if someone could suggest somewhere I could buy those without buying the full box set. DV8
Dammit you stole my idea! :) S'all good, Kor'sarro Khan is actually going to be the model I convert into my Ragnar. Just take one of the heads from the new Space Wolf pack (there's one with a top knot that looks very Ragnar), and combine two of the chainswords together to make a super huge frost blade. Winterseven
Sorry DV8 - Couldnt help myself - saw the model and thought 'Ragnar Conversion' Anyway i'm sure yours will turn out much better than mine - my painting isnt the best  I might check out the bloodletter models and see what the blades are like, and i have just got the new Wolf Pack box today (but havent had a chance to open it) so will look at the blades there too! The Fenrisian
I'm looking forward to see this Khan conversion, as I've always thought he could make a nice SW model. In the mean time I'll slap up pics of my Ragnar conversion in. Sadly I've not had a chance to paint him yet, but playing him in a game was rather fun....*cackles*... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/jay...rmy/ragnar1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/jay...rmy/ragnar2.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180916-wolf-lord-counts-as-ragnar/#findComment-2143528 Share on other sites
Alienerd
I just use the axes from the new sprue as frost weapons, I prefer it to the whopper that the termie in the codex has, and once I get my hands on it, will swap the 2 around, as the big one deserves to be 2 handed. On the Ragnar note, for for it with Khan, I have to say the pose isn't my favourite, the legs don't seem to be moving enoug or a pose that requires preparing to slash in my opinion, but I wish you all the luck anyway Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180916-wolf-lord-counts-as-ragnar/#findComment-2143580 Share on other sites

The Fenrisian
It's the metal Ragnar's blade. I happily sawed through that terrible model to get the good bits. I took the frost blade, pistol and his wolf head shoulder pad. The plastic backpack is from the old plastic upgrade sprue, which you can now buy again from mail order. Winterseven
Thats a nice ragnar conversion, i might hunt around on ebay to see if i can pick up that model cheap and see what i can salvage from him.... Well i guess all that i now need to do is buy the model for the conversion - so just need to sit here and wait until Wednesday (pay day ;) ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180916-wolf-lord-counts-as-ragnar/#findComment-2143657 Share on other sites
The Fenrisian
I just need to rebase him before I paint him, as he should be on a standard base really. It'll save the arguments with more serious players. I think I got mine for about 4 quid on ebay. There's plenty of them floating about with it being a 15 year old design.....or thereabouts. The Fenrisian
Yes. They stopped selling it a while back, but they re-released it with the new codex. You should be able to find it on the website. I've not looked myself, but I know they've started selling it again. It's nice that it also provides us with the meltagun that the pack box doesn't have. The Fenrisian
You're right, it's not on the website. If you have the latest WD, check out page 78, it's on there. It mentions that it's being re-released, but it may not have come out yet (again). I'd give mail order and bell and ask them as another option.
