KiltedMarine
So I'm working on my next list, and realized it's a new chance to create some fun background for my ICs and Wolf Guards. I've written the below, and I want to know if any of my brothers here in the Fang have done the same! By the way, the word "brawd" (pl. "brawdi") is taken from the Welsh word for brother- if anybody can confirm if my usage is correct or not, please let me know, as well! Brawd-Captain Llugh Swift-hand Llugh rose to Captaincy of the third great company at the end of the Velharr Crusade (02.115.810M41) at the death of Balar Doom-Eye. Llugh had earned his battle-name during the Moros Rift Campaign (635M41), wherein Llugh killed four traitor marines of the Blood Stalkers legion with their own squad leader’s power weapon. After the campaign, bards and druids of the Chapter ritually cleansed the weapon of Chaos taint, renaming it “Bright Fang,” and Llugh carried it until the end of the campaign against the Necrons on Cordulis (03.075.850M41), when the bards gifted him with the Chapter relic known as the Beltaine Blade for his valorous leadership and tactical acumen. In recognition of this honor, the Third Company have adopted the epithet “Beltaine Blades.” Wolf Lord, Frost Blade, wolf tooth necklace, belt of Russ, Saga of the Warrior Born. Brawd Diarmid Redwolf, the Giant-killer Diarmid is considered by many to be the most likely candidate to hold Captaincy of the 3rd Company in the event of Llugh’s death. He is charismatic, well-liked despite a noted melancholic streak, and second only to Llugh in martial skill. He earned his battle-name during the invasion of Deleros Ultra (03.410.805M41), when his pack’s drop pod was driven far off-course during insertion, and they found themselves deep within traitor territory. Rather than making a straight push to Imperial lines, Diarmid led his fellows on a campaign of rampage, disrupting enemy plans and destroying much of their supply network. He earned the title of “Giant Killer” for the feat of slaying a Squiggoth single-handedly at the Battle of Pentax Hive (03.744.970M41), and cemented his reputation by repeating the feat against a Carnifex on Frall-IX (03.587.972M41). Wolf Guard Battle Leader, paired Wolf Claws, wolf-tooth necklace, Saga of the Beastslayer Brawd Gwalchmei Dawn-hawk Youngest of Lleu’s Red Branch, Gwalchmei has only been a Space Marine since 952M41, but his rise into the elite of the Chapter was meteoric. He earned his battle-name on Frall-IX (03.610.972M41), leading his Skyclaw brethren out of the rising sun and to the aid of the Mordian CXLII ahead of an advance in force by the rest of the 3rd Company. In the combat that followed, Gwalchmei faced a Genestealer Brood-Lord in single combat and presented the beast’s head as a trophy to Llugh that night. For his ferocity and courage, Gwalchmei received a place in the Red Branch and the undying admiration of his younger brethren. Wolf Guard, jump pack, power weapon. Brawd Fionn Dragon’s-Breath Fionn’s brethren joke that he earned his moniker as much for his eating habits as his exploits in battle; his digestive tract reacted oddly to the Canis Helix, and as a result he suffers from severe halitosis. Though they jest in this, the brawdi all respect Fionn’s toughness, and in fact his battle-name was earned for his actions during the siege of Hive Mortax (02.531.798M41). His pack had assaulted the traitor trenches, and Fionn found his bolt pistol damaged by enemy fire. Without pausing, he picked up a meltagun from a fallen traitor and used it to deadly effect, clearing three heavy weapons emplacements along the rampart and opening a gap for the other Hounds to exploit. Wolf Guard, combi-melta, power fist Brawd Liam Coldeyes It is said around the fire (but never within his hearing) that Liam should have been a Wyld Hunter. Amongst the boisterous and volatile brawdi, Liam’s quiet and brooding nature stands out. Unlike most of the Red Branch, who typically show their prowess in hand to hand combat, Liam earned his place at Llugh’s table for marksmanship, putting a bolter round into the left eye of Pirate Prince Lithrien during the Colddark Scouring (04.272.896M41). That he did this from extreme range, on the run, while the Pirate loomed over the critically-wounded form of Brawd-Captain Llugh, only added to his acclaim. For his part, Liam does not like to hear the story because, he says, “It just reminds me I was aiming for the middle of his forehead.” Wolf Guard, combi-plasma, power weapon Brawd Herne Iron-breaker After about a score of years, most brawdi get over the headlong recklessness imparted by the Canis Helix. In some rare cases, however, a brother becomes even more strongly addicted to the rush of speed and the thrill of close combat. Herne is one of these brawdi. He earned his battle-name by leading his swiftclaw brothers against a squadron of Iron Warriors tanks at the Siege of Byelograd (2.855.824M41), losing his right eye and most of that side of his face to a mistimed meltabomb charge, but destroying no fewer than a dozen traitor Predators and Vindicators in the process. At Paulus Valley (3.243.863M41) he severely damaged the traitor Warlord Titan “Icon of Perdition,” leaving the huge construct vulnerable to concentrated fire from loyalist Warhound Titans of Legion Incendio. Herne resents to this day that credit for the kill in Imperial records went to the Titans, when “I’d have taken the bloody thing myself if they’d given me another ten seconds.” He leads his pack always against the tanks and other armor of the enemy in preference to any other targets, choosing the biggest first, and working his way down. As a result, brawdi join his pack to earn themselves a name quickly, and often leave when they realize that even amongst the reckless courage of the Hounds of Arawn, Herne is certifiably crazy. Grimmwulf
Really interesting to read. I appreciate th effort you put in that fluff. I named a few of my models but that is about all the background i thought of for them until now. Maybe i will make up some more now after reading this. The part about the Wolf Guard beating a broodlord singlehandedly is a bit over the top though. That is a feat that some of the chapter masters could hardly achieve (if the broodlord was not severely wounded before that is). The goal was something noteworthy, without being another MC kill...
