Rokafort Stonewolf
Grey Hunters. 8+WG with the works (usually power weapon over fist, or leave that out) if in a rhino/LRG/drop pod, if in a LRC/LRR make it 10+WG for two meltaguns. WG will have a combi-flamer or combi-melta and a power fist/thunder hammer. Sharpsilver
how about 10 wolfguard with 10 plasma pistols, and 10 frostblades in a crusader with 2 wolves, only down side is the over heating crazyness that could occur, but t 480 for the squad it has lots of attacks at str6 on the charge, so you can easily take out a dread if you dont blow a hole in it with the pp's Looking in the dex' it states that Wolfguard cannot have Wolves attached to them. However if you meant Ragnar himself and the wolves with the Wolfguard then yea. In total for Ragnar, 2 Wolves and 10 Wolfguard in Power Armor with Plasma pistols Frost Axes and in a Land Raider Crusader it would cost you....940pts. That's far too much to be putting inside a Land Raider Crusader. For that price you could've bought 4 Squads of Grey Hunters each with a Flamer, Meltagun and Power Weapon and given each a Rhino, and then had 120pts left over! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180979-what-is-the-best-type-of-wg-to-run-with-ragnar/page/2/#findComment-2145230 Share on other sites
Haakon_Stormbrow
no your right there, i was saying points no option, probably throw in ulrik to boot, and use it as for 10k point games. White Hunter
I ran this unit last night and it owned I rolled a 6 for the first charge: Ragnar 8 S6 I6 attacks 3dual Frost Blades 18 S7 I5 attacks (I know the debate in the other forum, I played with a friend and we wanted to try this) 3 PW+BP 18 S5 I5 attacks 2 PF+BP 10 S8 I1 attacks This unit will wipe out anything! easily my MVP took out 10 Mega Nobz and Ghazghkull after they killed of the final 8 Boyz they had been engaged with the previous turn ragnar killed (5 of them :cuss ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180979-what-is-the-best-type-of-wg-to-run-with-ragnar/page/2/#findComment-2146057 Share on other sites
HERO
How many points is that above? I seriously don't know why everyone takes deathstar units. A unit of 5x WGT with 4 Wolf Claws and a Chain Fist is 200 points. Cheap, effective, and offers a lot of attacks with Ragnar. White Hunter
Well, the above unit is 334 points. As to the death star unit question, I don't know. I like big killy units that strike at Initiative, and I went with PA units in this case which jacked up the price cause I needed the extra bodies, PA also allows me to sweeping advance. As it is however, I think that I can get away with a similar unit in TDA for cheaper, (not quite as cheap as yours though) which allows me to cut down on bodies. due to the better survivablity of TDA. Brother Captain Kezef
I'd say 6 to 8 WG in power armour dropped in via drop pod. It's what the boy is famous for. maznaz
If I ever used Ragnar in a normal game I was planning to put him in a unit of grey hunters with two flamers and wolf guard with a thunderhammer. Expect every AP2 or AP3 blast template to get your guys the moment they land. Being a SC every person in the game knows exactly what Ragnar and his Co. can do in an assault. I see the only safe method of delivering him being a Land Raider. Valerian
I'd say 6 to 8 WG in power armour dropped in via drop pod. It's what the boy is famous for. Expect every AP2 or AP3 blast template to get your guys the moment they land. Well not every army has a significant amount of AP2 or AP3 blast templates to worry about, and a few relatively cheap 18 point Wolf Guard can absorb some of those shots for you. On the turn that they land, that is what the 4+ Cover Save from hiding behind their Drop Pod is for (protecting you from low AP shots). Besides, as Kezef stated, Ragnar is known for Drop Pod assaults; it fits to use him this way. I'm not the type that takes chances unfortunately :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/180979-what-is-the-best-type-of-wg-to-run-with-ragnar/page/2/#findComment-2146263 Share on other sites
Coverfire
when I finally get a force up and running with the new models I am going to put Ragnar with a Wolf Priest (or Ulrik) in a LRC with 12 Blood Claws and Arjac. It will end badly but it will be hell fun!
